Saddening, but not surprising.

It's not the first independent effort to bring the BoM to the screen as he keeps stating, but it does seem to be better made than the last major attempt.

Here is the comment I put on the video that was deleted
Your LDS / Brighamite church won't get better, just about everything they teach contradicts the BoM
https://seekingyhwh.org/except-this-and-except-that/
They give less than 0.1% of what they take in to the poor.
Overall nice message.

Sometimes people are so close to the message of the BoM as well as the culture of the church that they cannot see the blatant contradictions between the two. This man is in for a rude awakening.

Apaprently there are more than a few LDS scholars that do NOT want this movie to do well.

Since he criticized the leadership, will they show him the door?

There was a Trib article (hidden behind a paywall) that alleged these things.
Another reason why the Church doesn't want to associate themselves with the project is quite simple: They don't want to give any oxygen to the fact that this man is listed as a speaker at the FIRM Book of Mormon conferences. The leadership views these people as fringe. And there are quite a few crazies in there that serious scholars would not even consider looking at.

Here is a review from Facebook...
Eli Stagg
·
I'm not going to mince words on this one. As a strong believer in the Book of Mormon, everything it stands for, and God, I would never recommend this movie to anyone. I absolutely hated it. I would have walked out a number of times during the movie, but I managed to suffer through most of it only so I could give it a full review. (We finally did walk out towards the end when it became too much)
Worst movie ever!
Bad acting, horrible storyline, awkward script, and overall very difficult to sit through. I can't even find the words to say how bad it was.
I am sad that it is even in a small way connected with the Book of Mormon.
Don't waste your money.

I've seen a couple other Facebook reviews saying they loved it. To each their own.

I don't know...I've read the LOTR and I've watched the extended edition movie version. I like the movie better. With the book, I can use my imagination, yes, but the movie's cinematography, stunning film locations, and especially the 20+ soundtrack themes with over a dozen hours worth of music composed by Howard Shore just does it for me. I know we couldn't have the movie without the book, but the movie trilogy just brings it all to life for me.
If Peter Jackson or Mel Gibson or even Dallas Jenkins produced a Book of Mormon movie series, that would be truly epic!! I would trust any three of them to stay true to the heart and the message of the Book of Mormon. Dallas would hire a proper team of consultants to ensure this as he has done with The Chosen.

The BoM in reality would cause PTSD for most people. The depravity toward the end is beyond horrific.
While I get the idea that video can express a more enriching experience for most people, I wouldn't limit the capacity of our minds to ask God what it was like to live during those times. The life review playback version is gonna be pretty epic, and heartbreaking at the same time. Not only will you get the perspective of a single participant, but all of them.

Dang, I edited my post while you replied. Well, so would some parts of the Bible. There were some bloody wars and dark horrors in the Old Testament, particularly where infant murders are concerned. Infanticide is a part of Biblical history and I believe it was also part of the "secret murders" mentioned periodically throughout the Book of Mormon.

I’m hoping to go see it. I hope it’s good!
I didn’t realize the Church has supported The Chosen.

Yes, not only infanticide but sacrifices of infants, children, and adults to "whatever god " (god of darkness)

I wonder if this has a lot to do with the 'establishment' view of the Meso-American model. I could not see any stone meso temples in the trailer.

Whatever it is, it likely has everything to do with optics. I think Subcomandante hit the nail on the head. In any case The Chosen wasn't acknowledged for many years by the church until it began to go mainstream.

It makes me think that the church's PR dept has been infiltrated by Gadiantons.

The first thing to remember is that the FP are control freaks. They don't want mavericks, or anybody freelancing, because they may prove to be unknown quantities.

I can see why they wouldn't be interested in every random person who wants them to speak up for their pet project. It's a poor business practice. At the same time, I kind of think of this scripture:
28 Yea, it shall come in a day when the power of God shall be denied, and churches become defiled and be lifted up in the pride of their hearts; yea, even in a day when leaders of churches and teachers shall rise in the pride of their hearts, even to the envying of them who belong to their churches.

Two problems right off the bat; Eagle beak RMN godsend did not think of the idea to spread the gospel and second, it appears that the movie will speak truth, the number one rival of the Q15.

It looks better quality than the last attempt.
