POLL -- Have you ever seen an angel or angels first hand?

Fairly simple poll to gauge where people are at on this topic. Will run for 10 days. Can only choose one option. Please feel free to explain yourself in comments especially if you voted 'Other' or 'Yes'.

Talking about angelic visitations or visions was very taboo when I was in the church. I'm curious whether this has changed any or how people feel about it on this forum.

I answered "no", but since the word angel can also mean other things there are other possibilities:
* Messenger (and thus can refer to people)
* Demons are fallen angels.

I believe demons are more likely to interact openly with people than angels of God, who prefer to do things behind the scenes. As for people being angels, I haven't taken that into consideration but the Greek can mean that.

Good point I mostly had in mind an angel sent from the presence of God or from heaven but people can interpret as they like I suppose.

I could answer yes to the other two, but not the first AFAIK, unless I've seen one unknowingly.

Angels can appear as people and blend in. When they visited Lot at Sodom, they were not recognised as such by the inhabitants. Likewise, people can be angels, and bring messages from God or help others, I've seen that too.

I prayed for HF to send a warrior angel to my mother. She saw him the next morning. She had seen several different angels since then. One she observed on one of the cameras I set up for her. He followed me around for an hour while I worked in the forest. The same one visited her for nine hours this spring. She fell outside and dislocated her shoulder. Every time she started to doze off, he tapped on a tree to keep her awake. If she had fallen asleep, she would have died, according to the ambulance personnel. She is 98 and lives alone.
I think 'the ministering of angels' is fantastic. I hadn't thought that highly of it before these things started happening because it is tied to 'the lesser priesthood' but there is a lot of power in this and there is so much to learn about it.

When I was about ten, I was swimming at the beach. A small promontory jutted out into the water. Rocky, craggy and full of sharp barnacle’s. I went out into the waves not far away. Didn’t realize a rip tide was taking me away from shore.

Realized I was in trouble, and started swimming to rocks. Getting closer I could see no way to climb up, swells were heavy and I knew I’d be dashed against the barnacle covered rocks.

Tried to swim toward beach, but rip tide was sweeping from beach outward along the promontory.

Wasn’t a member of any church. Family had no religious inclinations.

Anyway, cried out to God…

Suddenly, as if a mighty man put two hands about my waist, and as a particularly large swell came along, raised me up and set me on top of the rocks safe and sound.

I was sobbing because of the brief brush with mortality, as I picked my way back to the beach barefoot over the rocks.

Back on the sand, still a hundred yards from our umbrella spot, I looked back and fear left me, and I realized something unseen and kind had saved me from drowning…

I said Maybe.
I don’t think I’ve seen a proper angel. But the night before my mom died I saw her in a dream as a sort of angel. She was much younger though, like 12 years old. We knew she was sick and would be gone soon. So perhaps it was only a dream. After she died I saw her in dreams several times. I was always happy to see her and would hug her.

If we want to go into humans delivering a message from God, then I believe I’ve probably seen one.

Angels disguised as mortals, who knows? Maybe I’ve seen one or more!

I’m somewhat accident prone and have had close encounters where I could have died or been paralyzed and came out unscathed or with injuries that were not terrible and that I could heal from in a couple months. So it could be that I have or we all have guardian angels watching over us. I haven’t seen one though.

I did see a woman one time that I talked with for a while. We were in the middle of nowhere. More than 5 miles to the closest paved road. When we finished talking, she kept walking. A few seconds later, I looked at where she was headed. She was gone.

A few times in my life, I have had mysterious strangers show up to provide help when in need. And leave quickly after, never to be seen again. They sure seemed to be physical beings, though. Appeared to be ordinary people, aside from the curious timing of their appearance and departure.

The important thing about this question is whether you met an angel, shook his hand, and confirmed whether he really is an angel.

An angel of God sat with me while my baby was sick and gave me specific instructions.

He literally talked with me and calmed me and instructed me. It lasted about 5 hours. When the problem resolved he was gone.

This was alone in my bedroom in the middle of the night. I was praying for help. I could not have done it alone. Even though the Holy Ghost has often helped me, I needed more.

It was my Abrahamic experience and I could not have done it alone.

If the level of stress and trouble that that experience held is a requirement to see an angel, I hope to not see another in this life.

If angels can visit under more pleasant circumstances. I would be happen to entertain an angel again.

I covered this above. There are three main definitions as I understand it:
* A heavenly angel
* A human messenger (since the root of angel means this). Maybe an animal at a remote second.
* A fallen angel.

Also worth pointing out that certain types of angels have practically never been seen and so are not messengers – the seraphim etc.

I wonder if this is partly a reference to Lot at Sodom because his neighbours did not recognise who they were.
