Utah Bombings and Hoffman

Just a real quick question that might get lengthy discussion.
How many of you know the actual back story to the Utah Bombings carried out by Hoffman? There is some really shady stuff involved that were just some of the causes (in his mind) that triggered Hoffman to do what he did. His targets were specific and directed. There were innocent people hurt and killed, but they were not the intended targets and MH was truly sorrowful for them getting dead or injured. Yes, he did have an agenda and manifesto. But the story is much deeper than just Hoffman blowing people up.

Alright, then; spill the beans, what have you got? We're game for it. I saw the movie; revisionist history, was it?

I do know that John Hajicek, a historical documents expert, with a specialized knowledge of Nauvoo historical documents...told the church NOT to buy the Hoffman documents and told the church they were forgeries...BUT...the church bought them anyway...and the crap show unfolded from there.
Another proof that the supposed PSR'S got it completely wrong...even when warned beforehand. So much for seeing around corners...
They couldn't see across a well lit hallway, even with a warning from a documents expert.

With respect, I don't think you do know, I think what you know is that that John Hajicek has claimed that.
I don't trust him. He has an agenda and despite what he claims about personally knowing several of the apostles (a tactic used my many to bolster their credentials), I am very uneasy about him. The speed with which he got on the Justin Griffin "Who killed Joseph Smith?" bandwagon was astonishing. For one who claims meticulous research standards, his judgement in this matter is clearly questionable.
So on balance I don't believe his Hoffman claim.

You miss the point entirely...believe what you want to believe. But, John has made it very public that he advised the church against the Hoffman documents. If that isn't true, I would think he would have been publicly lambasted long ago.
Don't confuse name dropping with his ability to ascertain the validity of historical documents. How do you know what John knows?? How do you know who John has met? You are incredibly quick to judge a man you probably have never met or had a conversation with.

I think you missed my point. The only evidence that he advised the church against the Hoffman documents is his claim. No corroborating evidence, no copy of the letter etc, just his word. And as I said, I think he inflates his credentials.
I had an online exchange with him a few weeks ago. He didn't attempt to address my point even though he initiated the contact. He just told me how great he was at collecting historical Mormon documents and how much he's paid for them and how much profit he makes. I pressed him on the issue at hand and he proceeded to tell me he knows one of the LDS apostles quite well. I got the impression he was frustrated that I wasn't particularly impressed.

Just a refresher...
[youtube/youtube]
Fred,
She says Mark Hoffman made so many people look stupid.
He made no one look foolish or stupid.
They simply were foolish and stupid, to believe the nonsense about his documents.
