Hmmm I don't remember that scripture... I thought it was deny yourself... Silly me.
Oh and clearly queer, he probably said it in the video but it was put on the cutting floor bc.. well you know we have to slowly indoctrinate the Church.

It seems the "Teddy Bear" view of Jesus requires one to do an enormous amount of scriptural cherry picking.

Every day it becomes clearer to me how Jesus could deny us entrance to the feast and declare that we never knew Him.

This business about loving yourself is false doctrine.
Jesus never said it.

In case anyone has missed it, this video is on the Church’s official YouTube page which has 2 million subscribers. If there was anything about this video that concerned the 15 PSR’s it wouldn’t be there. They endorse this message.

Wow!! Read his post and it was full of falsehood. It boggles my mind a bit when they claim to love God so much yet they are allowing their hearts to go toward the lusts of the flesh and commit abominations.
And it's truly sad that his own father is encouraging it.

This is where it is all headed. Instead of denying oneself it is indulge oneself.

“Love your neighbor as yourself.”
That’s the scripture where he’s getting the idea from.

He’s going to continue serving in the temple every week, but he’s also going to date and look for a romantic relationship? How’s that going to work out?

"As I’ve been reflecting a lot on these crushes I’ve had throughout the years and the unhealthy ways that I’ve handled them. I’ve thought about Alma 32 and the invitation to plant a seed to see if it grows. When it comes to genuine love and connection with another man, I don’t know what would develop because I haven’t allowed myself agency to try it. "

I know.
However, this is misinterpreted in my view. I have heard it repeatedly stated over the years that this means we are commanded to love ourselves. However, it is actually acknowledging that we already love ourselves (we feed ourselves, clothe ourselves, try to create favourable conditions for ourselves) and is simply pointing out that we should do that for our neighbours too.

Haven't you heard? You can't possibly love your neighbor until you allow yourself to get sodomized by lots of random men.

I can see "loving yourself". As stated, "Love your neighbor as yourself" presupposes that you do so. You are a child of God and He loves you, so you ought to love yourself. I sure love myself, I've got that down pat. Power, strength, knowledge, glory, authority, what I want, me my I know best. Mastered that one.

But "be kind to yourself"? What does that even mean? You can love someone without always being kind, and you can be kind to someone without loving him or her. Sometimes loving someone means being what could be construed as "unkind". If I were perpetually "kind" to myself, I would be overweight, in debt, and never develop any new or existing talents. Serving a mission sure wasn't a "kind" experience, so count that out. I would certainly never have entered the military or reaped whatever experiences or blessings I gained thereby. I certainly wouldn't have children, because few things in my life have been as unkind to me as spending nearly a decade with perpetually at least one toddler in the house, and we're not even done. I would even be single and poor, because my wife would probably draw some of my money to support my former children and hiring women to be "kind to me" would get pricy very quickly. I also wouldn't ever bother trying to help others understand why certain things they want to do are poor ideas, because it might offend them and then they would treat me unkindly. I would openly support sin by others, because that is the easiest and most self-kind thing I can do.

"Be kind to yourself"? Well, yeah, within reason. Within the proper understanding of "being kind". Loving yourself despite sinning, yet calling your sins what they are and always trying to push them away, rather than embrace or integrate them. People who do great things don't reach their capacity to do them while being "kind" to themselves. Army Rangers? Navy SEALs? Professional athletes? Shaolin monks? Even Mormon membersofthechurchofJesusChristoflatterdaysaint pioneers. These are all people who are and were most decidedly not "kind to themselves". When a pickup hit out quad-size stroller full of children, tearing it from my wife's arms, the iron grip I used to stop it from spinning into a ditch wasn't a random or temporary gift from God. It was a gift I developed for myself after years of dedicating almost every morning to not being kind to myself. I saw no special angel waiting around to pick up the slack that would have existed had I not done what I did in unknowing preparation for it.

I'm disappointed at a lot of the Church's messaging over the past few years. Everything I come across is either wrong/evil ("global citizen"/covid/&c.), or at best something vague/out of proper context/misrepresent-able. It's been a while since I've come across a message that was absolutely straightforward and couldn't be misused or misunderstood, except for an occasional "pornography is bad". I don't like that one however, because if said porn were of a same-sex nature, there would be people in authority who would have much more pity, patience, or even support for it or the involved person than if it were of the normal variety. Cries against the boogeymen of racism and white supremacy, but not against the Gadianton robbers warned of in the Book of Mormon. Seeking "anything lovely, of good report, or praiseworthy" has become "trust leaders, trust authority, don't mind anyone else". Kids in cages during Obama, but it was when Trump was in office that they were suddenly objectionable, and now that Biden is in they sure shut up about it. Trump again, the only president we've had in a LONG time who actually brought peace rather than war, was warned of as being dangerous. Once against Proposition 8, they were more recently promoting sexual grooming and condemning parents who don't want sexual deviancy openly paraded.

... Okay, I'm done now. Sorry.

I briefly looked through is Facebook posts and...I guess this is why I've decided to distance myself from the church lately. Here is a man bending and twisting scripture to fit a narrative. Who openly admits he preaches the gospel to others through the LTGB lens. Who says Jesus understands why gay people marry each other and that we need to understand them like Jesus would. And the church says and does nothing. I've seen the church lay down the kibosh on a lot of people who dared question the direction the church was going, but have never seen them do anything to prevent doctrine from being corrupted.

The Church's implicit support of this kind of crap is a major part of why I started distancing myself from the corporation as well. Now I find myself wishing this type of thing were the only reason I've found to distance myself. After a little over a year of asking to be released from my ward's Bishopric, and not participating in the craziness anymore, my completely faithful true believing wife has recognized and admitted to herself that these issues are deal breakers and has stopped participating as well...we won't even send our kids to Primary as the leaders in that organization have completely bought into the LGBTQ and CRT agendas.

New blog post!
I have been so open and so public about my choice to be a single, openly gay Latter-day Saint that, to maintain a spirit of openness and honesty, I want to share the next steps of my life with you. I know I don’t owe anyone any explanations about my personal life, and I understand that it’s okay for me to maintain some privacy. However, I feel the integrity of my public-facing life deserves updated clarity.

He says you must love yourself in order to, and before, you can love others.

This is a lie. It leads to self loathing.

People don't like selfish people. If you are selfish, you will not like yourself.

People like unselfish people. If you are unselfish, you will like yourself.

You must first be the kind of person you would love, in order to love yourself.

Also, Ben Schilaty is an Anti-Christ and much of the degradation of the church in the last 5 years in regard to LGBTQ issues lays at his feet through his position both in the BYU honor code office and the fake firesides he would do for local leadership in Utah since at least 2020 and Idaho and other locations since then.

@1:18, when he looked up at the gargoyles and smiled... I doubt if he will be smiling at real gargoyles in hell, that will probably be devouring his flesh if he does not repent-- going by the accounts many people who've had NDEs of hell, and they say these gargoyle-like creatures were devouring their flesh, which would immediately regenerate so the process could repeat for all eternity, or it would burn off and regenerate...

Found this in his comments with 21 likes (3 times more than any other comment.) Gay people seem to be getting fed up with him as well.
Summary: nothing has changed and you just wanted to remind people of your martyr complex to boost website views. We get it, you would lose relevance if you started dating dudes, and being relevant is more important to you than being in a relationship. Trust me, we gays aren't missing out.
I'll leave you with a quote I heard from his own lips Feb 2020.

"I am going to be an angel in the Celestial Kingdom. I don't want a wife and kids here. Why would I want them there?"

Certainly not a Christ-like role model for anyone's kids.

Robin Hood wrote: November 9th, 2023, 9:50 am This business about loving yourself is false doctrine.

He certainly didn't, but I suppose it depends how one defines these terms. They are too open to interpretation. "Love" is misdefined as sexual activity nowadays... but self-love need not be a bad thing. I think we conflate the positive connotations of such a phrase with selfishness and narcissism which are both negative forms of self-attention.

Genuine self-love is a good thing. Too many people hate themselves and inflict that self-loathing on others. (Leftists and some Greens are especially guilty of this.) Real self-love is looking after yourself responsibly, not giving into despair and abuse, not to mention looking after your own spiritual welfare. An alcoholic or a gambler is not loving themselves but abusing themselves and is deeply unhappy.
