My 1996 Dodge RAM had 400k on it before the transmission went out. I still have it as well as a truck with a good transmission that the rear end went out. I have 6 Dodge trucks for parts. One day I will find a mechanic and fix half of them. Apartment dwellers don't have this luxury. No place to store them so they scrap them for pocket change.Bronco73idi wrote: ↑October 31st, 2023, 5:12 pm My 2008 sequoia only has 288k miles on it and it runs like new.

I had a kid offer to take the rear end out of one of my 1999 Suburbans and put it in the other which is a nice 4x4 with a super stereo. But I didn't trust him to do the job. He didn't want money. He wanted one of my broken trucks.
I live rather frugally. The next $5k I get goes to a pallet of solar panels that I will double my money on. I can't do that with a truck. I had to buy another snow plow last week, so no money for a nice truck there. I do have a diesel truck. It's a 1983 Ford that was my snow plow. But I got tired of fixing it. I call my place poverty flats. It's actually on a mountain, but the name fits.Bronco73idi wrote: ↑October 31st, 2023, 5:59 pmIMG_7005.jpegFred wrote: ↑October 31st, 2023, 5:26 pmMy 1996 Dodge RAM had 400k on it before the transmission went out. My other 2008, it is also a “Dodge”![]()
It’s a 1996 Cummins 12V 215hp engine turned up to 600hp with s362 over s475 compound turbos “twins”
Being 9400lbs empty, it isn’t as fun as my last Cummins, 1994 175hp that dyno 422hp at the wheels in a half ton 2003 Dodge 1500. That thing drove like a muscle car![]()

Did you get the bracket for the passenger side of the dash? They have an obnoxious rattle because the mounting bracket breaks.gradles21 wrote: ↑October 31st, 2023, 8:01 pm My daily driver is a 1994 f-250 with a 7.3 idi diesel. It has never let me down. Sure it doesn't have any power but it has plenty of torque to pull what i need it to. I have to laugh when all the people around me complain about engine problems in their new vehicles, never ending electrical issues and all the unnecessary gadgets that the new cars come with that just stop working.

No but I haven't noticed any rattling, maybe the engine just drowns out the noise. I'll look at it today and see if it's broken.Bronco73idi wrote: ↑October 31st, 2023, 10:28 pmDid you get the bracket for the passenger side of the dash? I remember back in the late 90's, some friends talking about how the government could shut down all of the newer vehicles remotely. They claimed they saw it happen in St. George, UT.
I'd personally only recommend buying NEW if you're financially well off and can pay cash for it. Buying used, as I always have, I try to pay cash and avoid debt.
The trucks I drive are 20 years old so cash is not a big deal. My thoughts when I started this thread was: If someone else can turn my truck off at will, is it really mine? Kind of like the land I pay property tax on.creator wrote: ↑November 1st, 2023, 9:33 amI remember back in the late 90's, some friends talking about how the government could shut down all of the newer vehicles remotely. Because I want to? That makes it legit to me. I’ve been looking for a Chevy Colorado, my commuter, 2002 Trailblazer, is ready to die and then the dog gets to get into the Subaru, currently hair free.
