Not that I can think of. Even if money were no object and I really wanted the car I'm buying pre-owned. I've always been a big car guy but for the most part, the industry isn't going in a direction I'm excited about. Kill switches are pretty insane and that would be in my giant list of reasons not to buy new. For some reason, this reminds me of the post where Lineman's friend who only dates new (non-sealed) women LOL

I used to have a Rover. Only problem was that Rover had folded some years before. (LandRover was split off and still exists.) It made repairing the car more expensive than it should be.

My 2008 sequoia only has 288k miles on it and it runs like new.

They’ve had optional “kill switches” since the early 2000’s. That was one of the big sell points of onstar. Everything you do and say is recorded in those. Wether you subscribe or not. The new cars are ridiculous I work in a small shop. We’re seeing 18’s and 19’s come in consistently now. I wouldn’t want anything to do with them. I drive a 91 geo metro(Suzuki swift to non Americans) it has enough computer to start and run very well but that’s it. I appreciate it more every day.

My 1996 Dodge RAM had 400k on it before the transmission went out. I still have it as well as a truck with a good transmission that the rear end went out. I have 6 Dodge trucks for parts. One day I will find a mechanic and fix half of them. Apartment dwellers don't have this luxury. No place to store them so they scrap them for pocket change.

I had a kid offer to take the rear end out of one of my 1999 Suburbans and put it in the other which is a nice 4x4 with a super stereo. But I didn't trust him to do the job. He didn't want money. He wanted one of my broken trucks.

My other 2008, it is also a “Dodge” 😂

It’s a 1996 Cummins 12V 215hp engine turned up to 600hp with s362 over s475 compound turbos “twins”

Being 9400lbs empty, it isn’t as fun as my last Cummins, 1994 175hp that dyno 422hp at the wheels in a half ton 2003 Dodge 1500. That thing drove like a muscle car 😆

I live rather frugally. The next $5k I get goes to a pallet of solar panels that I will double my money on. I can't do that with a truck. I had to buy another snow plow last week, so no money for a nice truck there. I do have a diesel truck. It's a 1983 Ford that was my snow plow. But I got tired of fixing it. I call my place poverty flats. It's actually on a mountain, but the name fits.

Actually I'll bet out in small town Utah it is very different to the big city life there.

My daily driver is a 1994 f-250 with a 7.3 idi diesel. It has never let me down. Sure it doesn't have any power but it has plenty of torque to pull what i need it to. I have to laugh when all the people around me complain about engine problems in their new vehicles, never ending electrical issues and all the unnecessary gadgets that the new cars come with that just stop working.

Did you get the bracket for the passenger side of the dash? They have an obnoxious rattle because the mounting bracket breaks.

No but I haven't noticed any rattling, maybe the engine just drowns out the noise. I'll look at it today and see if it's broken.

I remember back in the late 90's, some friends talking about how the government could shut down all of the newer vehicles remotely. They claimed they saw it happen in St. George, UT. 🤷‍♂️

I'd personally only recommend buying NEW if you're financially well off and can pay cash for it. Buying used, as I always have, I try to pay cash and avoid debt.

The trucks I drive are 20 years old so cash is not a big deal. My thoughts when I started this thread was: If someone else can turn my truck off at will, is it really mine? Kind of like the land I pay property tax on.

Because I want to? That makes it legit to me. I’ve been looking for a Chevy Colorado, my commuter, 2002 Trailblazer, is ready to die and then the dog gets to get into the Subaru, currently hair free.
The UAW has me considering a Tacoma though……
Need something to play in that gets better mileage than my Duramax, which is really around to pull the horses around.
We buy new, tend to keep ten years or so. Wife had a plug in hybrid she got last year. Neat ride.

Cars, don’t waste your money on them
If you don’t have money to waste. Almost as bad as motorcycles and snowmobiles 😎

Cash is king!
There are a record number of repossessed cars and trucks. Many less than a year old. They are not selling at auctions. People are not bidding the opening bid and so the no sale goes back to the bank. Several times. Expect to pay half price for a 6 month old auto. Otherwise wait. The banks have no money. Banks are not loaning. They are repossessing.

All you gotta do is pull the dashboard and disconnect the Onstar antenna, and the Sirius radio antenna.

Then your car/truck can’t take instructions from elsewhere.
