Thanks, I can relate too.
Maybe it’s partly certain stages of life where by design, we are thrown into a type of dark night of the soul where we question what we used to think & give exciting meaning to, & a part of us dies so another part can be “born again.”

Except I really don’t know if I believe that a dark night of the soul is essential for spiritual ultimate potential. Ie Mother Teresa went through years towards the end of her life where she secretly questioned everything & just went through the motions. How depressing! But John of the Cross suggested the dark night is a more beautiful thing comparable to a reunifying of lovers (Union with God). Maybe for him. But I’m thinking for me & many, “functional illusions” are important to keep the spark alive within us. Enthusiasm = filled with God etc.

It is important to take responsibility and care for ourselves physically, socially, mentally, spiritually etc. We may know a lot about the immune, cardiovascular & integumentary systems, but what all do we know about study of the soul, etc? Aren’t there spiritual counterparts - “as above so below”?
