“Why is education a religious responsibility?
President Nelson has said: “In the Church, obtaining an education and getting knowledge are a religious responsibility. We educate our minds so that one day we can render service of worth to somebody else” (“Focus on Values,” February 2013, New Era).
Referencing that quote, Elder Christofferson emphasized that education is part of individuals’ development and progress toward becoming more like Heavenly Father and the Savior, but also a way to be of service to someone else.”
LOL!!!!!

Yes if the church members on average are more educated they will probably have a higher lifetime earning potential which means more tithing dividends collected for the church and more worldly admiration from being rich and having white collar membership. It is sad to me honestly. Where are the humble followers of Christ?Bookworm101 wrote: ↑October 13th, 2023, 11:11 amFuture tithe payers need to be wealthy.Mamabear wrote: ↑October 13th, 2023, 11:05 am https://www.thechurchnews.com/leaders/2 ... er-pearson

It explains why schools (colleges and universities) have been able to charge ridiculous tuition and still have an abundance of applications.
And young people keep going into preposterous debt to obtain useless degrees, which they never use in life.
And plumbers, auto mechanics and other trades can change exorbitant rates for cheap and easy work.

I went to college for one reason, against my better judgement and spiritual feelings: President Hinckley said to. I was dedicated to "follow the prophet". I've regretted 90% of my time and 100% of my money spent on college.

I have seven years of “higher” education and schooling beyond high school. If I had it all to do over again I would do things very differently. As one of my good friends admonishes, “Don’t let school get in the way of your education.”

It puts a big smile on my face to have gone to Aviation maintenance school with my GI bill, so no student loan debt. Airplane mechanic pay has improved.

So, is the OP intended to be offensive and divisive? It is you know. Jesus NEVER told anyone to be a fisherman! He told Peter to be a "fisher of men".
Silly and foolish perspective. Always, everyone, even tradesmen need education. If you have none, then you'll follow the MSM! Good advice. I'm sorry if you feel your children are better off without education, sorry in deed. I told my kids to get as much school as they could. I only paid for first 4 years. Some have good careers others still working tradesman jobs. I don't care. But, all have had enough to be able to compete in a society where their peers have PhD's in BS and gender bending, etc....
I suppose I should ignore this, it seems an ignorant plea to find fault with any statement from anyone LDS! I'd say evil is trying to provoke someone for no reason.......... That is all I can get from the OP, I didn't even see the OP claimed statement or anything like it. And from someone with "mom" in their name. Shameful. IMO.

You may not agree w/ the OP, but the premise is the higher your education, the more money you make. Thus, the more tithes you pay on your "income". (Remember that fun discussion we had? Good times.) And what LDS member doesn't want gross blessing vs net, right?

Everyone around me, comes to me for everything. I can walk past a train wreck that doesn’t involve me. They love pulling me in!
Education sometimes limits people, it puts them in the mindset of “you need a professional!”
A couple of years ago a new guy at work cried about his divorce and how much he paid for lawyers. Then told me that he wanted custody of his kids. He and his ex moved about an hour away in different directions from the area they raised their kids. I told him if you want custody, you need to move back to their school district and maintain their “life”. His lawyer didn’t “agree” he did not get custody.
I call it common sense but education people call it?
I do not agree that we need the Beast’s education system to enslave our brothers and sisters.

That Utah region Fireside on higher education seemed strange. It was one of those awkward panel discussions the church uses for the kids...the ones where it is supposed to be spontaneous but everything feels scripted and the auxiliary leaders stumble all over trying to properly honor the member of the 12 that is there...yeah those...they are hard for me to watch.
Really weird when the auxiliary leader asked everyone to give an extra round of applause to welcome the apostle.

Education alone doesn’t mean you must go to an institution or you must think the way the educated men of the world think.Bronco73idi wrote: ↑ I do not agree that we need the Beast’s education system to enslave our brothers and sisters.

Gosh, really? No joke. I was talking about all the times he wasn’t fond of lawyers. And that’s what the church is full of. They look down on people who aren’t doctors, lawyers, businessmen etc.
When “religious” leaders insert their noses into people’s education and claim it’s in the name of “coming closer to God”, that is a significant load of garbage. But as pointed out earlier they want to create wealthy church goers so they can benefit from their money. They also want their church goers brainwashed in wokeism because that’s the direction they’re headed as well. It’s a win win.

Wisdom involves experience AND knowledge.Luke 2:52 wrote: And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man
According to some here, Jesus should not have learned the scriptures because the Scribes and Pharisees also knew them and applied them incorrectly. Nor should he have learned how to be a carpenter.

My degree made almost no difference to my employment career. I've learnt as much, if not more, outside school and college as I have in it.
I respect proper education but much of what we see nowadays is not useful and not even enjoyable. It's how the far left has reconditioned the middle class.

My son in law earns over $100k. He is a plumber of new being built buildings only. He is issued a company truck and a card to pay for it's gas and maintenance. He went to SLCC for a short time to get his degree and now he teaches there part time for more money. He didn't have to learn satanism that is taught at all universities including BYU. No idiotic social classes. No faggotry training. He wasn't even told to change his sex or apologize for being white. He was paid to work for his current employer to cover school and living expenses until graduation when they gave him a massive raise. Zero student loans. Everything he touches is brand new. He doesn't even get dirty.

The irony is that their advice to get educated is not very relevant any longer. People in the trades are now earning more in some areas than those with bachelors and masters. Even some phds who are stuck in post-doc cycle.David13 wrote: ↑October 13th, 2023, 11:24 am It explains why schools (colleges and universities) have been able to charge ridiculous tuition and still have an abundance of applications.

My degree was not ridiculously impractical, or at least the subject wasn't. However there were certain things about my target industry that I was not told about.

You think auto mechanics is easy? Really? It’s not even simple. It is recession resistant, and essential, a good mechanic can get a job anywhere, but it is a lot of strenuous and difficult work. Plumbing while simple in principle is also a lot of work especially plumbing repair, which is often down right nasty.
In my experience those who went to school for stuff usually have to be retaught how to do things properly. Being educated is good if it gives you useful information. But the current “education” system doesn’t do that for the most part and is a detriment to those involved.
I am autodidactic by nature and find formal education annoying, but I can usually hold my own with people with advanced degrees and I can actually do what they just talk about.

No Charley. I KNOW auto mechanics is easy ... and FUN!
That's why I have been doing it all my life, in spite of an advanced "professional" degree that I did use for a long time (unlike 1/2 of the others with the same degree). And it is/was a degree that I much more like not using, than using.
And no, I'm not the only one that did it that way.
