Isaiah 6
The Situation
The Lord of Hosts, Jehovah, brings Isaiah to his royal heavenly court. In this setting, there are seraphs, or angels of the highest rank and holiness. The seraphim announced the holiness of the Lord and that the purpose of the Lord is the consummation or perfection of all the Earth, or all who lived or will live upon the earth.

Isaiah is dismayed because he knew he was not worthy because of the wickedness of his people and their speech. The seraphim knew his thoughts and in symbolism of the Lord's atonement took a coal from the altar and touched it to his lips.

The Lord asked for someone they could send to the people, but not to preach repentance. That time was past, general repentance would not happen for these people. The prophet was to tell them that they were blind and deaf and would not hear. Some individuals might decide to humbly accept this insight, but in general the Jews' day of grace was over, and they had to go into captivity.

Of course, Isaiah uses the past as prologue, so likewise, this is our day and the condition of our church. We are blind and deaf, and we cannot see or hear because we already think we do see and hear.

It is one of the great ironies of our Church that we can read this prophecy of Isaiah that is in the Book of Mormon, not understand it and most of us proudly acknowledge that we don't understand it, and still not realize that it is talking about us. If we don't understand God's words we are deaf and blind, right? Isaiah wrote God's words. So, if we don't understand Isaiah, what are we? DEAF AND BLIND! In fact, so deaf and blind that God doesn't even warn us. Instead, it's almost as if he will send his true prophet to mock us.

The Effect
Because of this great wickedness, which is our unclean speech, we will be destroyed. As long as ten percent of the people are left in the cities or return to them, the war will continue. Only a tithe will make it to Zion. However, all who make it to the end of the fighting will be holy, and will have children in the Millennium.

What We Should Do
The implications of this chapter are that we should open our ears and our eyes to see and hear the word of the Lord. We should also be ready to flee the cities. Being in a city at that point will be tantamount to suicide. We must be ready to flee to the countryside and to the mountains. The mountains are where we will find refuge if we repent.
