Come for Tony Robbins and Gary V, stay for David Bednar for the low low cost of $350!

It's a CEO/special person extravaganza! The spiritual dynamo known as David A. Bednar will wow you with his insight into business management and organizational behavior. Witness the glowing countenance of a real-life PSR just before he reaches his spiritual zenith above us during his season finale performance at the conference center. On September 28th you'll have a chance to sit at the feet of a former president of BYU-I and current member of the quorum of the twelve apostles of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (take a breath) while he tosses spiritual treats into your goodie bag.

P.S. $350 is actually a smokin' hot deal when you consider you get to hear the mayor of SLC, CEO of bed bath and beyond, and Jim Kwik speak. Does anyone want to carpool down there with me? Get there early so you don't miss the sustaining vote.

Is this a problem or just what DAB wants to do with his spare time? I think being an apostle and special witness of Christ has a million better things to do than this. Apologists will probably say it's like him going fishing or he's doing missionary work speaking at things like this for money. It's no worse than writing a book and making money off that. When one is called and accepts the calling he has I think one needs to ask themselves would Christ be involved in this or not and then avoid the things Christ would sluff off because it has little worth.

How much was admission to Sermon on the Mount? That's how much he should charge. Not that he has a message anywhere near what Jesus presented, but charging more than Jesus is a bit arrogant.

$350 for those two is a really good deal (depending on time and scheduled activities).

Spending time w/ Christ costs something far more valuable. It requires a willing heart.

Will the people be informed they’ll have to stand as Bednar graces their presence and then not stand again until HE motions to leave? He’ll have a captive audience I guess.wonder what kind of special info they’ll be dishing that’s worth $350

Admission was 30 pieces of silver right?

Whatever good reasons one might offer for this, you really can't argue it doesn't add to the general elitist vibe that accompanies church leadership.

I dunno. I might be overly sensitive to the issue. Maybe it's no big deal. But I do hate elitism.

actually Jesus told the rich man to sell all his riches and "come follow me",
so Jesus is pretty darn expensive. Thats why only the poor follow him because they have nothing to lose.

I might have dished out $350 to see Sinatra when he was at his best but someone would have to pay me more than that to endure D. Bednar. What will it take for most of the church members to finally wake up to the fact that the Q15 have sold their souls for fame, glory and money?

Maybe if I attend the seminar I'll be able to make more money that I can then spend at "The Mall." Everybody wins!

Let's go shopping.

It is expensive to follow Him but hearing his message is typically free.

That mall thing seems to be a turning point. I've seen you mention it a few times. I remember paying so little attention at the time I wasn't even aware of it. I'm around SLC a lot but I've never been to that mall. Gross.

Depends on your definition of expensive. If you look at the risk vs reward it's really a low risk for a great reward. :D

I pick on the mall because it is such a departure from how we should be living. What saddens or sometimes infuriates me is the defense of such a monstrosity by the majority(?) of church members.

I live in eastern Ontario but was visiting SLC when the church was expropriating properties so that they could build the mall. Retracting roof, light shows, chrome, glass and glitz; Babylon at its finest. Oh yes, and it cost about $5 BILLION dollars to build. What a deal!

This is what apostles do in a revised church. Teach money.

Christ's apostles traveled across the countryside and taught the Living Gospel.

Today? they go to board meetings, eat at swank restaurants, tow the political line of Babylon at the pulpit, and teach others how to make MO MONEY.

I know...I'm old fashioned and maybe I need to get with the times.

"Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee; in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk." Acts 3:6
Should the apostles not be saying this instead?

Eventually all that shines will be turned to rust. What happens when stores can’t sell their wares & shutter their doors? Sure there will be temporary replacements but the cycle will continue & eventually they’ll close for good bc not everyone or everything is “well in Zion.”
Just think of how much more return they could get from investing in people, their health & well-being! Can’t measure that return on the accountant books though. Guess they figure it’s far easier to invest in the labor & huge temple building costs to “save” people after they’ve died than take the real time & energy by offering them Christ’s saving grace today.

I can guarantee you this:

VERY FEW people would go to this event because of Bednar.

A LOT of people will go to this event because of the CEO firepower in different tech jobs that are going to be there.

This is a Silicon Slopes convention after all.

Maybe they want to rival SXSW in TX or the conventions back in CA.

The original Apostles say that.

Today they say, "Gold and Silver I have up the A$$ and I want yours too, in the name of Jesus of Nazareth have faith to not rise up and walk."

So Tim Ballard can't use Elder Ballard's name to promote things, but Silicon Slopes can use Bedenar?

Hope Anthony Robbins and the others use their Bednar connection in morally acceptable ways.

So would I because I see malls failing everywhere I go. I was in Montreal a few weekends ago and walked through a few of them and it was eerily quiet. I lived there for about five years during the mid-late 80s when they were building these malls. Weekends were shoulder to shoulder and the excitement was palpable. I was as guilty as the rest.

Lately I've been thinking incessantly about the idea that trade is our problem and not money. Money is merely a credit note when the people do not trust each other because otherwise, a handshake might suffice. I always go back to 4 Nephi and the emphasis about having everything in common. Isaiah elaborates quite a bit about the big traders of the world and not in a good way. Isaiah goes on about the manufacturing of idols and I believe that he means the world of manufacturing in our day. I spent my whole life working in the manufacturing industry and it sucked the life right out of me. I retired last year and this summer I've been shovelling dirt, cutting wood, making a vegetable garden... I'm in heaven. All the while I'm shovelling I'm pondering the scriptures and communing with God. I imagine being a farmer and doing that 24/6, the 7th being the Sabbath. I would gladly give up all of the technology, noise, clock... and instead rely on the earth and God for my survival.

There is no money and no trade in Zion. If everything is in common the idea of trade makes no sense; it's all in the Bishop's storehouse. If all we did was grow food, build barns and make clothing we would not be able to get rich because the excess production, food, would rot if we kept it. The surplus would be taken to the storehouse to feed the poor and to create preserves for the use of the community. The Priesthood would administer all these things and this is how we would grow in the Priesthood before becoming Kings and Queens in the Kingdom of God.

This is why I shake my head at the Holy Church of God building and dropping $5 BILLION on a chromed up, gaudy piece of crap that is the City Creek mall where the shops will gladly take your money in exchange for a fancy purse, pure silk tie, filet mignon, martini, plastic Christus...

Silicon Slopes is simply the name of the region of northern Utah from Logan to Provo that specializes in tech jobs. It was a nomenclature to compete with Silicon Valley in California and Silicon Hills in south central Texas.

Trust me, Bednar is not the highlight of that conference.

He'll probably speak for five minutes or perhaps ten thanking the CEOs that will be there for investing in Utah. He's (Bednar) had previous interaction with tech companies and was the driving force behind the Church using the social media more and more. He'll probably be learning a LOT more than teaching.

It is that but it's also a 501c non-profit https://newsroom.siliconslopes.com/about/ That's the non-profit org hosting the event. I'm sure you're right about the rest as well. I don't think Jesus needs Bednar to spend time thanking CEO's for investing in Utah  The church is a corporation but I get all caught up in the whole special witness of Christ thing I expect to see apostles focusing on. Bednar is a manager and I have no doubt he does that well but I've never thought of apostles as business managers. The church with as many resources as the LDS church should hire that stuff out so apostles can be apostles. The Q15 could make that happen.
