When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not...
And yes, this can happen too! Deuteronomy 18:22
“When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.”
King James Version (KJV)
So what are we to do? Pray. Take the Holy Spirit for your guide. Make the best honest decision you can. Make decisions which align with the standard works (established scripture). Why couldn't the epistles (Bible) by the Apostles (sometimes) be this clear. Maybe in part because they had to go through language translations, although the direct words of the Savior are still very clear.

Also noteworthy are the two verses before this one, which say that the false prophet "shall die" (i.e. stoned to death by Old Testament law):
"But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die."
Nowadays we don't stone anyone, but we still shouldn't listen to them.

I don’t know if we could get it any more plainly than the words written by Nephi:
2 Nephi 28
30 For behold, thus saith the Lord God: I will give unto the children of men line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little and there a little; and blessed are those who hearken unto my precepts, and lend an ear unto my counsel, for they shall learn wisdom; for unto him that receiveth I will give more; and from them that shall say, We have enough, from them shall be taken away even that which they have.
31 Cursed is he that putteth his trust in man, or maketh flesh his arm, or shall hearken unto the precepts of men, save their precepts shall be given by the power of the Holy Ghost.

What about inviting a specific strong magnitude of earthquake?kirtland r.m. wrote: ↑September 13th, 2023, 5:20 pm And yes, this can happen too! Deuteronomy 18:22

Should we expect the next strong earthquake to be of specified magnitude?
Maybe within the next year is ok?
Or maybe the next 5 years?

This is why PSRs don’t attempt to prophesy. They would fail this test.
It’s funny that they still call themselves prophets.

Who was it that said when asked if they are prophets:
"They (the members) sustain me as such"
GBH on Larry King Live?
What a little weasel.

This was the rule used to kill the actual prophets of the Most High, because Baal's priests called them false prophets and killed them.Socratic wrote: ↑September 13th, 2023, 5:38 pm Also noteworthy are the two verses before this one, which say that the false prophet "shall die" (i.e. stoned to death by Old Testament law):

David (or some other figure I forgot by now) was told by god that something would happen if he went to a city. He didn't go to the city and so it didn't happen. Was this a false prophecy? Lol.
