Right Wing Extremism?!
I ran across this article and thought..."What is right wing extremism"? What is the definition of that? What is extreme by one persons standards is totally normal to another. I don't drink coffee...ever. To some that is extreme....to me it is a way of life.
It would be so easy for the media to lump everyone into one group. Those that are racists and militant nut-jobs along with those that favor constitutional government and the right protect God given freedoms.
http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090414/us_ ... extremists
Fearmongering regarding these "extremists" will help to put them away privily without bristling public sentiment...if they decide to form a militia...or stand against tyranny...even if it is totally peaceful! Preemptive rounding up or intensified monitoring of the "extremists" could be on the horizon when things worsen. Did they see those Ron Paul yard signs I had up!!? Uh oh...

I saw the same article on yahoo. Although, at first glance they seem to be clumping the warmongering terrorist-type cells into "right-wing extremism", I agree with you that it not only can become, but IS a general attack on conservative thought. Having worked in government recently in the protective services area, I can tell you that they watch ALL "militias" not just the supposedly or obviously violent ones.
The question is: What do we do about it?

So based on the article and what you stated above, would they consider people on this website members of a "militia" worthy of thier watch. Which people do they watch, and based on the article it seems to assume that anyone who disagrees with obama and or the fed must be terrorists?MM1 wrote:I saw the same article on yahoo. I would not be AT ALL surprised if they watched this site and many, many more like it. Any group of people that are found to be conversing in a negative tone about government or officials, either in general or specific tones, are deemed a possible threat and are monitered. This has been going on in a very limited fashion since the days of H.W. Bush, but since the Patriot Act, it has become a priority. The NSA has more than quadrupled their workforce in less than 8 years, and the majority of those hire's are analyst's that observe and listen. No Joke. As far as you or I or others of our mindset being labeled as "terrorists" or "militia", that I don't know.

Coming from Missouri, I would say it is likely. The MIAC report is just the tip of the iceberg. I really don't care what they label me as.
'Do what is right let the consequence follow battle for freedom in spirit and might, and with stout heart look ye forth to tomorrow, God will protect you then do what is right.'

Yes, if you are pro-Constitution, pro-gun, anti-abortion, etc, LOOK OUT! You're an extremist. Sheesh. What does American even mean anymore?

Yea, I agree the extremism is based on the point of view of the writer. They should base things on how much freedom is allowed or disallowed.Stephen wrote:I ran across this article and thought..."What is right wing extremism"? What is the definition of that? For example, a supporter of limited government is labeled a conservative and a supporter for total government is labeled totalitarian.
The founders of our nation would be in the group for limited government. Those that espouse socialism, communism and fascism would be in the group for total government.

prew,
What you say is true, "extremism" is based solely on the viewpoint of the writer. Just like most of history. History is written by the "winners", which is why we never hear about the "losers" point of view.
What do you feel specifically labels us as right wing extremists?
