37.3 cents of every dollar for military-defense huh? Good thing... whew... I mean, look at all of the damage those terrorists keep inflicting upon the U.S.!With this publication, taxpayers can take stock of how the federal government spent each 2008 income tax dollar: 37.3 cents went towards military-related spending (military and military-related debt), while environment, energy and science-related spending split 2.8 cents. Income tax dollar spending is available for all states as well as over 200 cities and towns.

9/11 was quite profitable for the military-industrial complex wasn't it AND it is no coincidence that the only industry/corporations not suffering from the economic/financial mess are the ones tied to defense, re-construction efforts in Iraq or military weaponry (basically the military-industrial complex). Amazing.

you'll find its probably more.
there is debt on old wars and military
there is future debt
there are pension liabilities and obligations
there is also a 5% discretionary allowance that the president has, most of that goes to the military
a lot of other stuff is hidden within other expenditure but is really military
its closer to 50%, but now that the govt is spending more andn selling more bonds printing more money, as a % of the budget it may be smaller this year
but historically the last 5 or so years is just a tad under 50%
its also more than the rest of the world combined.
anyone who has been to the temple should be able to see that the enemy is not al queda but closer to home and more sinister than some rag heads in caves who hate us because we are free (LMAO)

I am pretty sure it was much more during Reagan where there was not war to fight.

Well my own thoughts are we should have a strong National Guard 5-10mil with small group of active marines and navy. You could accomplish this on a shoestring budget of about 125-250 billion and would make our military even stronger than it is today.
In my perfect world, we would have 5% flat tax, that would raise about 700 billion ~ 1/3 of that would go to the military the rest for other crap enumerated to congressional spending. Education would be entirely private. Infrastructure would be entirely private or user fee related.
The American people are just plain stupid.
