Is there anyone that has a place I could stay in Salt Lake City for the Summer ?

Post by Being There »

I guess I'm feeling the need to leave my family
so that I can work and provide for them.

I am currently still stuck here in Mexico, with no way to make money,
and would like to return to the U.S. to work.
Return alone - without my family - (even though my wife will be angry at me)
only because it would be easier to find someone I could stay with.
So I'm looking for someone that might be able to help me with that,
and that has a place - like a room, or basement,
and would be willing to let me stay there for the Summer while I work -
Or be willing to let me stay there for a month or so until I was working
and could pay them some rent for the place - like a room - or a basement -
or even a apartment or house that they want to rent.

I have reached out to a few here,
but for those that don't know my circumstance -

I was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah;
lived there all my life and been a member of the church all my life,
and this is what happened to our family and is our current situation.

My daughter started a GoFundMe years ago, to try to help our family out,
but we had to discontinue it a few years ago because of their regulations,
but this is what it said -

Please help our family.

A few years ago our family came to Mexico to visit family,
and while we were here, my mother got sick and couldn't travel,
so we couldn't return to our home in Salt Lake City, UT where we lived
with my grandmother.

My mother got a little better and was able to travel, but then my grandmother died
and the house was sold, leaving us with no house and nowhere to return to.
So we are now still here in Mexico with very little money for food
and living under very difficult circumstances.

We are a family of 4 who needs help right now with food
and our present living situation;
and we are trying to get enough money for 4 airline tickets back to Salt Lake City ,
and then enough money to pay for a place to live
and for food and necessary things to start living until we can get jobs
and back on our feet again.
We need at least $5,000. to be able to do this.

Please help our family to get back home.
with love, thanks

So right now - if you can believe it , we are still here, stuck here in Mexico
living with my wife's mother (her father died 2 years ago)
and we're just trying to get by and make enough money for food.

Jobs are hard to come by here.
And my wife is still not very good to work and doesn't walk well.
I don't speak Spanish, so all we can do to make a little money
is to teach English to a few people,
and that doesn't pay much money at all.

You need a work permit to work here,
and I would need money to start a process here with immigration so I could get a temporary
and then permanent residence here;
then I could apply and get a work permit - so then I might be able
to get some sort of job (if even possible) but all together, it's a process that costs around $2,000.
There aren't many jobs here, but doing this process is the only way
I could even try to work here to try to make a little money for our family.

We are trying to get a used car here that doesn't cost very much.
It would help us so much because my wife still can't walk very well.

We would like to get back home to S.L.C., but always the problem has been
is where we could live once we got there.
Live at least temporarily, until we got jobs and back on our feet.

I you have ANY ideas that might help,,
or are in any position to help our family out in any way -
with our current situation here,
for food or with the money I need to start working,
or with helping us to get back home to Salt Lake City and with living there,
please let me know.

Thank you for listening.

If 100 people donated $50 to BeingThere, that would be $5000.
if 200 people donated $25 to BeingThere that would be $5000.
if 400 people donated $12.50 to BeingThere that would be $5000.
if

There is strength in numbers. If we could get 100 people to donate I would be willing to contribute. I am already housing many family members at my home and don't have any room. If anyone can be of help to brother BeingThere, please help. How much would you be willing to contribute?

I can contribute $1700. However how to get it to them? I don't want to use a service unless 100% goes to them.

That is very, very generous of you Teavian! Being there needs to set up some way that we can donate directly to him. God bless you.

Sounds like a bold courageous move. I'm happy to see you have the strength to do it.

On a lighter note, what a joy it would be if you were to come to Gilbert, Az instead. That way we could sit down and have a face to face and I could convince you the JS will return.

well, I have some experience doing maintenance work,
but most of my experience has been doing delivery work,
mostly in Salt Lake and along the Wasatch front.
Delivery Driver - Parts Driver.
I know Salt Lake like the back of my hand.

See what you can get set up so that those of us who are not situated to help in any other way can see if we can help by contributing some money to the cause.

I second the idea of picking somewhere to come back to cheaper than SLC.
Maybe Tennessee or the Midwest somewhere?

I sent your post to someone here on the forum who has room in their house in Salt Lake and needs to fill it for the summer. I'll DM you with more info. I hope that will be helpful for you both!

I pray you'll get the help you need, so family will have their needs and wants met. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ’š

what I've told others,
is that my wife has a savings account at Mountain America Credit Union
that still has a few dollars in it - (just enough to keep it open)
where you could just make a deposit -
(in person, or transfer the money - from your account)
into her account and we could take it out here.

Or if you don't live by a Mountain America Credit Union,
I have a sister in Salt Lake that you could send to her - in the mail,
a check or money order - made out to her,
and mail it to her at her address,
and then she could cash it, and then go to the Mountain America Credit Union
near to her house, and put the money into my wife's account,
and we can take it out here with my wife's ATM card.

If either of these ways works for you,
please PM me and I will give you the information.

thanks

I cant help directly, but...

You are homeless and need to take every advantage of the systems in place to help homeless people.

Fly in, go to a shelter, get help.
Bring a list of bishop's contact info so you can be texting and trying to find someone that can take you in and help you get back on your feet.

If you dont have drug problems and can hold down a job for more than two weeks, you will have social workers all over your case trying to help you succeed because they're very exhausted spending all their efforts trying to help people who just wont ever be functional enough to get off the street.
You can be their success story. They'll set you up with a bed at the very least and help you find a job, and then get an apartment. Once you have enough money you fly in your family.

Hi BeingThere, sorry to hear about your experiences so far.

Here is a website for Salt Lake County that may assist you in your efforts
https://slco.org/homeless-services/reso ... -shelters/

(It has emergency shelters, place to get food, even optical, medical, dental help, the day centers also have Shower, laundry, phone, bag storage, haircuts, computer lab, day room & referrals to other assistance programs ) So it sounds like you just need to locate airplane travel with the help you got so far from Telavian and use Trax or taxis to get around.

That being said, you are facing an uphill battle as economic times in the US are on their way down most likely. So not sure what is better but think the forum is happy to try to listen and put thoughts together.

this is getting interesting.

So this is the 5th day now - without any water.

They started rationing our water a month and a half ago.
2 days water - then 2 days no water -they say it will go like this for 6 or 7 months.
(Most house do have a small tank that stores a small amount of water -
but usually not enough to last the 2 days)
But now - they're getting to be ridiculous..

They clam there's a water shortage - and yet it rains so much here -
last month - it rained everyday - a lot.

They are even selling water to other areas.
Who knows why.
I think foul play is going on here.
Someone has their own agenda - to fill there pockets.

Some people have even been out of water for weeks -
even some businesses have had to close.

we do our wash by hand - ( our small washing machine broke years ago)
but we can't hardly even do that now - with so little water.

got to go now -
have to look for some water - maybe down the road -
then carry buckets home.

I was going to reach out via PM to see what I could do to help, but I havenโ€™t made it to town/bank yet.

In the meantime, I have a question: Can you and your whole family cross the border without any issue(s)/problem(s)?

well thank you.
Whatever you could do to help us with our current living circumstance
would be great.

To answer your question directly - yes,
but we've kinda ran into a snag.

We are all U.S. citizens - with U.S. passports - so that's not a problem.
But I kind of just found out - that our passports have expired while we've been here -
and from what I've learned - you can't return to the U.S. with expired passports.
I didn't really know that or expected that that was the case.

So the problem is - right now -
is the money it takes to renew our passports.
And from what I have found - its about $200. for each passport. (total $800. )
and takes 4 to 6 weeks.

So that's the only problem I can think of - with entering back into the U.S..

Being there, it sounds like you need help but I am also not following the situation.

Why can't you use a credit card to pay for these things and pay that back when get back to US?
Also as a US citizen, why leave the country without renewing passport so could get back in?

If you are renewing your passport, they don't allow online anymore and also if you are out of the country they won't let you mail it in.
You need to go online to schedule an in-person visit to US Embassy-Mexico Consulate I believe (definitely if you are living near the US border)
