It honestly doesn’t surprise me that you want to go eat brownies now. You’re probably from the older generation who are the ones who seem to ALWAYS be pushing sweets on me!!!

Oh yeah, and since you believe in moderation in all things, do you also drink alcohol moderately? Smoke tobacco moderately? Take drugs in moderation?
nope, never smoked, never drank alcohol, never took drugs (other than Tylenol, etc...)... Nope, I do drink Coke and exercise everyday. I didn't accuse you of anything, not intentionally. I am the older generation, back when you used common sense and didn't follow every diet fad that came out. Keto one day, Atkins the next, butter-bad, margarine-bad-butter-good, etc... eat within limits, exercise, home cook most the time, have veggies and some meat. but always save some room for goodies.

I just wanted to make a point. It seems we get on threads and there is some kind of gang mentality. the posts just build up. Starts slow then ramps up. We start with how bad it is too have sugar and nice foods. then how bad the corporations and farmers are, and then how good it was 200 years ago; and forget the reality.

Most are young and from the city. But, I can tell you that when I was little and we lived in the country, we ate pretty good. My mom canned everything and froze what couldn't be canned. but her mom had a tiny fridge and no freezer, occasional ice carried in blocks for ice box. Food didn't last long, it took maybe 3 weeks to get food to upstate NY from deep south, longer from CA. They did have refridging trains which helped. but not in JS day. Occasional ice cut from the river and stored in straw. As mentioned they did salt meat (ever eaten salted meat, not too tender) and some dried fish, but most was seasonal. I'm not saying it was bad. I just want to point out that while there are some downsides to today's processing there are many upsides, less disease, less rot, more variety for healthy eating, etc... Not all doom and gloom... the cup is at least 1/2 full.

BTW, never did make brownies, some friends from out of town showed up and brought strawberries and angel food cake, and some whip............ nice (added a scoop of vanilla ice cream too). NOt a bit of guilt here.
One shouldn’t feel guilty for eating. It’s not a sin.

However if some of us drank cokes every day and had dessert every day as well, we would have type 2 diabetes. Even with exercise! Since you are older you probably got blessed with better epigenetics than the younger generations. Less vaccines as well to screw up your body. So it’s fine. Eat what you want. I was just stating that people shouldn’t pressure others to eat junk foods.

It is easy to look at the old days with fondness and forget what you have today. Even though we have easier preservation systems today than ever before (fridge/freezer) the food is also loaded with more preservatives than ever before. Of course life in the 1800's was hard and a lot of people died of dumb things. I think though that in key areas it was also better.
They had their techniques for eating in the season and preserving food for times of famine.

Certainly cup is 1/2 full.

Coca Cola is likely worse than caffeine, alcohol, and smokes put together.

There were ways to preserve these things. You could turn the strawberries into jam (jelly) and salt/dry the meat. They did have shortages, but they did prepare for winter too.
The more I learn about that time period, the more I realize they were much more advanced than what I previously imagined.

ok, I get it. But you would really hate my wife then. She's from PR and offers everyone, every guest, everything, food, snacks, dinner, desert, etc... she's compulsively kind that way. If you think someone offering you something, anything basically, is pressuring, well just say no. I think they all mean well, not evil.

Perhaps good genes, I don't feel any different than anyone else, I work to be healthy, hard in the winter in Seattle though. Same vaccines as well, I don't count them as evil or bad, feeling that way for the most part is falling into the modern counter-truths IMO (not counting COVID that is). I've traveled much of the world and only used to get sick eating in cheap Mexican restaurants, but I guess I needed to get accustomed to the different food types there? In fact, in the USAF they gave me every possible vax known to man, and most in the very same day (almost passed out that day, I hate needles, that would have grounded me from flying jets for a full career).

I guess people are just very different. I had a friend and his family stay with me temporarily while I was living in the PNW. He was Air Force and could probably eat dirt and be fine. His wife though was allergic to almost everything. I think some of it was mental, but certainly some was physical also.
They rented a house, moved all the stuff in, and then the first night she started getting sick. Turned out there was mold in the walls.

Some people can tolerate things and others can't.

very rare, been here nearly 40 years never heard of or seen indoor mold. I mean I read about it. I suppose it is possible, couldn't imagine a wall staying together after too long of mold, but it is possible. I never stayed on base, but I wouldn't really trust the old army housing, perhaps if that was it, Madigan hospital was notorious after VN war about making people more ill.

There is definitely a lot of junk food around to feel tempted by. And it’s good to be considerate about gifts offered - Eg., flowers may be better than cookies.

My mom who has struggled with obesity for most of her life, was with me at a restaurant. When the waitress offered & showed dessert options, my mom yelled at her, calling her a slut. I went with my brother to apologize. I think my mom felt bad about not being able to control her eating & took it out on the waitress who unknowingly reminded her of it.

There are various types of "Love Languages". Mine is touch. For many people it is food. It is easy to spot these people because they are always offering you food. They are trying to show love for you.

Rather than be frustrated with them, people should just realize that they are trying to show love to you. We can just say "No, Thank You" :D

I understand that to some people it might be a sign of love. However most today buy the cheapest sweets from the store and then offer it to others.
Those are loaded with a 1000 ingredients, and probably aren't nutritionally safe to even look at.

It would be totally different if someone made something themselves with basic (hopefully organic) ingredients and then offered it to others.
Is it really love if I am offering you junk from the discount section of the store?

Not love, but out of common courtesy. It's okay to offer and it's okay to say no to an offer. None of it is personal.
