I was being genuine but haven’t got a response yet from this:
Your home for discussing politics, the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and the principles of liberty.

Probably not - they are probably trying to decide if they need to "testify", show up and maybe "share something spiritual", or share a scripture or do nothing. THey may no end up responding because they can't figure out how to respond.
When I was on the mission, there were plenty of times where it was a HUGE blessing to just be able to go and visit with folks in their home and not have to have a specially prepared message or lesson. A place to just go and visit and enjoy families and their peaceful wonderful spirit.
The Church was too new in my mission area, this was not really possible. The missionaries that we have here have a completely different experience than I had. I enjoyed my time but it was a slog, 9:30 to 9:30 with a 1-hour lunch break (no dinner break), that was the culture.Cruiserdude wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 2:20 pmWhen I was on the mission, there were plenty of times where it was a HUGE blessing to just be able to go and visit with folks in their home and not have to have a specially prepared message or lesson. That really is nice of you to offer that to them.... Wouldn't surprise me at all if they take you up on it![]()
I did mine in Argentina in the late 90s and the non members would have us come in to get out of the rain or to have some hot 'mate', their herbal tea, or want to visit, etc.... I enjoyed getting to know people/families. Of course I liked 'teaching the gospel' but even more I just loved these people. They were humble and meek and welcoming and loving, etcransomme wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 2:32 pmThe Church was too new in my mission area, this was not really possible. Weren't you in Europe somewhere? Some of those missions would've been brutal on a social butterfly, like myself....ransomme wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 2:32 pmThe Church was too new in my mission area, this was not really possible. I was in Russia. It was a fascinating time in the mid-90s. I am also grateful, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way or in any other place. Met wonderful people, saw crazy things, and lived through an unimaginable time and place.Cruiserdude wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 2:57 pmWeren't you in Europe somewhere? Wow, Russia would've been something else. What an experience.ransomme wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 4:38 pmI was in Russia. It was a fascinating time in the mid-90s. Yeah
Report?? That’s funny.Gadianton Slayer wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 4:42 pm This is something they'll probably just report to your bishop or whichever local contact they have.
I didn't take her words literally, but I believe I understood her message...
I told my WML that we’ve “distanced” ourselves from the church, that we left the church, because the church left Jesus.Cruiserdude wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 5:51 pmI didn't take her words literally, but I believe I understood her message...
Sometimes you just gotta say stuff that way so that people will understand you.
I believe Jesus is my Savior.
To have parents leaving, while sending missionaries out. I know others like that, and I am not far off. I know that Church Inc. is not the one true Church, but I still attend and fellowship and actively participate on the local level, like teaching EQ and Sunday School sometimes. And I'll prolly be sending one out at the end of summer. So yeah it is interesting. I want him to have good experiences and to help himself and others find Christ, but to have him help them become members is whatever.
I'm noticing this is a recent trend in many of the missions (that I have missionary contacts in through a stake "mission prep" class that I've been involved with for about 2.5 years now) -- they're dissuaded from pounding the pavement and instead have been relegated to online "contacting" (Facebook, social media, etc) and working through the members.marc wrote: ↑March 20th, 2023, 2:24 pm I wonder why missionaries don't just randomly knock on our doors (at least not mine) and say hello for a quick visit? When I was a missionary, we were out talking to everybody and visiting everybody that didn't turn us away, including members/less active members even if it was just to share one scripture. Where I live, there's a sign-up sheet to invite missionaries over which I don't sign. I don't think most members sign up.
