Does anyone know what this is?
We live in the country and so we pay for a street light in our yard. Now this thing has appeared.

Is that your "private"/ "personal" streetlamp, or the county put it in and runs it? (I'm assuming you have ownership because you pay for it?)

Looks like a cell / wifi microstation. Many areas have been adding smaller boxes like these instead of big towers. Use a cellphone to see if signal strength is higher than normal or a new wifi SSID is being broadcast.

Could be a different flavor of 5G, maybe from a different company. Each company has its own 5G equipment, from what I've heard.

Re: Does anyone know what this is?
This is a pole on my private property, put there decades ago at my parents request and now paid for by me.
There is absolutely an antenna coming out of the bottom. It also looks directional and is pointed east.

I couldn't find anything using google images, but you might want to try it yourself. I zoomed in on just the transmitter:

It took me a while to figure it out but the antenna is the key. I’m willing to bet it’s a long range Wi-Fi repeater. I’m also willing to be your electric utility is using it to collect usage data from so called smart meters in your area. Give the a call send ask them.

This sounds most plausible. It looks like a WiFi box.gkearney wrote: ↑March 7th, 2023, 9:28 pm It took me a while to figure it out but the antenna is the key. In my area the council sometimes uses street lights to put up CCTV.

I f you own the pole then I would consider FoxMammaWisdom's suggestion and shoot it down.

If I remember correctly, the 800 MHz - 900 MHz frequencies are used mostly for cell phones.BigT wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 9:06 am This may be talking about the device, from Harris Corporation:

Call your local elected officials and report it so they can drone strike it using our tax payer money.FoxMammaWisdom wrote: ↑March 7th, 2023, 2:27 pm Looks like an invasive nefarious species. Shoot it down.

Climb up there and disable it in the least damaging way possible so as not to be obvious, then set up video surveillance to see who shows up to fix it.MikeMaillet wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 8:57 am I f you own the pole then I would consider FoxMammaWisdom's suggestion and shoot it down.

I'm a little more of an introvert IRL than I might appear to be onlineSeed Starter wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 5:05 pmHow have you not dated in 10 years? I would suspect it is an interception station placed there by the NSA to monitor all of your LDSFF posts.

A full metal jacket bullet carefully placed wouldn’t be obvious, from a distance.FoxMammaWisdom wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 5:02 pmBut shooting it would be more funBeNotDeceived wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 4:42 pmClimb up there and disable it in the least damaging way possible so as not to be obvious, then set up video surveillance to see who shows up to fix it.MikeMaillet wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 8:57 am I f you own the pole then I would consider FoxMammaWisdom's suggestion and shoot it down.

If the light is on your private property, placed there by you (and the electricity to it paid by you), how is it even legal for someone to attach anything to it?

About as legal as most representatives in government, most government bills and proposals involving tax money in any capacity, arguably all tax money in general, federal land, U.S. participation in treaties that supersede the U.S. constitution...Silver Pie wrote: ↑March 8th, 2023, 10:45 pm If the light is on your private property, placed there by you (and the electricity to it paid by you), how is it even legal for someone to attach anything to it?

Re: Does anyone know what this is?
Seems to me they trespassed on your property and mounted something on your own personal pole without permission. I’ve never heard of rules regarding telecommunication equipment that would give them permission to do that, but I’m not in that field.
Edit to add: they should be paying you rent.
