The church has a rule that General Authorities are not allowed to donate to political campaigns:
“General Authorities and general officers of the church and their spouses and other ecclesiastical leaders serving full-time should not personally participate in political campaigns, including promoting candidates, fundraising, speaking in behalf of or otherwise endorsing candidates and making financial contributions,”
Multiple donations from Dieter Uchtdorf showed up in the Federal Election Commission's website to Democrat campaigns. He says:
“These donations were made by our family using an online account, which is shared by our family and associated with my name,” said Elder Uchtdorf, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, in a statement provided to the Deseret News. “I regret such an oversight on my part. I fully support the church’s policy related to political donations from church leaders.”
But donating in someone else's name is a felony. That's what Dinseh D'Souza went to jail for. So either Elder Uchtdorf violated church rules multiple times, or someone in his family (unnamed) violated federal law multiple times. Pick the one you think is real, but both are bad.

Why would other people in his family share an account? Seems like a fishy explanation to me.

These "caught in the cookie jar" events are the new normal for the church. Feels like it's just the tip of the iceberg that could potentially sink the ship. It's been going on for years, but we're finally just starting to see it.

The explanation was given with reassuring smiles and a condescending tone. Get back in your station and let your superiors worry about these things. Noticing and questioning this stuff is not following the prophets.Christianlee wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2023, 12:25 pm Why would other people in his family share an account? Uchtdorf got off because he knew all about EPA. Remember, he was at one time in on the scheme when he was in the First Presidency.

I think the consensus here on LDSFF, at least, is that those "other people" are his wife. It's his way of lying without feeling like he's lying. Kind of like the "no unpaid clergy" thing.Christianlee wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2023, 12:25 pm Why would other people in his family share an account? Seems like a fishy explanation to me.
