The Priorities of Babylon

Post by tmac »

In the modern, materialistic world, the vast, vast majority of parents place a much higher priority on income, education, and career choices for their children than family, getting married, and having children, as confirmed by this poll/study. Once again, it's pretty much all about the money -- undoubtedly just as much (if not more) so within the Church, as without.

How are you going to live if you don't have money?

Yes, we should build a family. Yes, we should be getting married (to the opposite sex, and within the Temple). Yes, we should be having children.

How this happens, believe it or not, will depend on how you make a living, and how you train to do things well (training is different than education, as education is mostly theoretical whereas training is mostly practical).

As long as our goals are centered on building a family and returning the family back to God, it will not matter how much money you make or what educational achievements you may possess. It is a wise thing to be instructed, if you give heed to the commands of God. It is a wise thing to be rich, if you use them (riches) to help build others around you.

They need not be mutually exclusive.

You sound just like the last several generations of parents and leaders in the Church (be IN the World but not OF the World), most of whom essentially worship guys like Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman. But it is said to be easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. Meanwhile, we now have the fruits to show for it. We reap what we sow. The proof is in the pudding:
