I think unraveling 1g of DNA and accounting for it all would be a messy process, requiring reassembly to avoid destruction of all the data. This is suited for biological processes, but not for fast computing. A single edit would require the whole unravelling and reconstruction process, unless some kind of journaling approach was taken.

I wonder how much the magnetic coating on modern hard drives weighs, where a few terrabytes are stored. It's probably 1/50 of a gram. And it's randomly accessible for reading and writing.
