Underrated Bible stories #1: Elisha and the Bears

Post by Niemand »

Never make fun of a slap-head, especially one with God on his side.

This should be taught in every primary class. 😆

My dad's favorite [Bible story] is Elisha calling a curse on the street boys for calling him bald and then 2 bears maul them. (Dad is bald)

2 Kings 2
Quoted from the Common English Bible translation just because it sounds funnier:
23 Elisha went up from there to Bethel. As he was going up the road, some young people came out of the city. They mocked him: “Get going, Baldy! Get going, Baldy!” 24 Turning around, Elisha looked at them and cursed them in the Lord’s name. Then two bears came out of the woods and mangled forty-two of the youths.

23 Elisha left Jericho and went up to Bethel. He was walking along the road. Some boys came out of the town. They made fun of him. “Get out of here, baldy!” they said. “Get out of here! You don’t even have any hair on your head!” 24 He turned around and looked at them. And he asked for bad things to happen to them. He did it in the name of the Lord. Then two bears came out of the woods. They attacked 42 of the boys.

KJV
23 And he went up from thence unto Bethel: and as he was going up by the way, there came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head. 24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the Lord. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.

Symbolism of the number 42 in the Bible. Curious that Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy states 42 is the "answer to life, the universe and everything."

Forty two is an accursed number.

https://www.biblestudy.org/bibleref/mea ... le/42.html

In Scripture, the meaning of the number 42 is derived from its direct connection to the coming Antichrist. His evil efforts will last forty-two months in the end time, and thus it is firmly associated with him.
Then the angel gave me a measuring rod like a staff, saying, "Arise and measure the temple of God, and the altar . . . and they shall trample upon the holy city for forty-two (42) months" (Revelation 11:1 - 2)

Revelation 13 states that the end time Beast power will be so powerful that no one will be able to make war with him. He will speak boastful things and receive authority to do almost anything he wants for 42 months (Revelation 13:4 - 5). Forty-two is made up of six and seven, showing a link between mankind and God's spirit and a link between the Antichrist and Jesus Christ.

Appearances of the number forty-two
The phrase 'little children' appears forty-two times in the Old Testament.

The tribe of Levi was given a total number of 48 cities as part of their inheritance in the land of milk and honey. Six of these cities were to be designated as special 'cities of refuge' (Num. 6 - 7) leaving 42 other cities.

King Ahaziah of Judah began his reign at forty-two years old but was only on the throne one year (2Chronicles 22:2).

When we substitute a number for a letter in Nimrod's name, we find forty-two playing a role. Nimrod's name equates to 294, which is 42 x 7. Forty-two is often found as a factor in anti-Christian names.

Elisha and the number 42
A group of young men (roughly 30 - 40 in age) began to make fun of the prophet Elisha after his friend and mention Elijah was taken away from him in a fiery chariot. They shouted 'Get out of here, you bald guy!' to Elisha as he passed them by.

According to the Bible, Elisha did not waste any time letting the young men know that what they were doing was unacceptable to God. He turned, stared at them and cursed them in God's name. After verbally correcting the men two large female bears came out of the woods and tore to pieces 42 of them (2Kings 2:24)!

More info on Biblical Meaning of 42
The main body of John's gospel was penned in 42 A.D. This same year the gospel of Mark was also recorded. Both of these writings are tied for the third earliest New Testament book written. Matthew's gospel is the earliest, written in 35, while the book of James was recorded between 40 and 41.

In the genealogical table of Jesus Christ's physical lineage in the book of Matthew, the Greek word gennao is recorded forty-two times. Its correct translation is the word 'begat' since the lineage is through males who 'beget' a son.

Most of the original apostles leave Jerusalem in 42 AD. They depart in order to full their calling of preaching to the lost sheep of Israel's ten tribes scattered in the world (see Matthew 10:5 - 23). In the same year, the prophet Agabus predicts a coming three year famine that will take place during Emperor Claudius' reign (Acts 11:27 - 28).

Christians in Syrian Antioch, in the spring of 42 A.D., are informed by the prophet Agabus that a famine will occur that will last a grueling three years (Acts 11:27 - 28). The believers respond by planting food and collecting needed relief for Christians in Jerusalem (verse 29).

The children of Israel had 42 wanderings in the desert until they finally were given rest (Num. 33:1 - 50).

Balam was told by an angel not to curse israel. Thr angel had tonphysically stop him from going. These psionics have power and they are not always going to use it for god.

Elisha being bald is likely a result of him being more idsobedient to the heavens. Does not mean he was weak.

The kids may also be getting their karma reflected back on em. When someone casts their eye on you and thry havr godrays in their body, ypur karma becomes processed immediately or faster.

There was me thinking he was just an older man.

But your comment does remind me of Danny from Withnail & I:
Hairs are your aerials. They pick up signals from the cosmos, and transmit them directly into the brain. This is the reason bald-headed men are uptight.
Ironically, the actor who played Danny is himself now bald.

Many actors and actresses are channeling some spirit when they perform. Hence satan cultism got into holly easily. Holly is a poisonous herb thing that witches once made wands out of.

Many of the created works are due to creative inspiration or automatic writing. The loss of occukt knowledge makes it easy for satans to mess with humans. They just havr no clue what is going on.

For an example of this consider lord of the rings. I got the feeling that the lore was rarth s real his story. And not the stuff i learned from rockefeller his story books

Hairs have copper in em. They burn easily. Thus they are antennaes

More than once I have read Elisha’s invoking of the she- bear upon the rude children when teaching a rude SS class of teenagers became intolerable.

I read some Christian commentary that addressed potential mistranslation issues in that account. Namely being that bald is more of a reference to lack of authority. As in, they were not addressing his lack of hair, but rather challenging his authority. The other is with the translation of "youth" it is far more likely that is was actually a group of rival religious leaders, not children at all. I don't have the link handy, but you might find the commentary if you feel inclined to search for it.
