Governor Huntsman - Well, Now You Know
Recently on Meet the Press, John McCain listed John Huntsman as a possible person he would support in 2012 for president.
Does anything else need to be said about Huntsman?

I actually saw that segment and was going to post it here but totally forgot. Thanks for touching on this RB! It was all I needed to know about Huntsman (not that I didn't know before). He's actually on record as stating that his ultimate goal is to become a prominent figurehead in DC and even wants to run for Prez. The fact that McCain, an 'establishment' politician, supports him like that is very troubling.

Gov Huntsman is a socialist. Plan & simple. The people of UT are sheep. They seem to want to follow along with him. I will not support him if he runs for Pres.

Re: Governor Huntsman - Well, Now You Know
Last year I voted for Huntsman - I actually liked him, he balanced the budget and I thought he was fiscally responsible. He was a bit of a squishy moderate Republican, but his efforts on the budget, updating the liquor laws to make them more rational and accepting of those who aren't Mormon, all good. Even his civil unions suppot (which I thought was brilliant because it defangs it from homosexuality) made him a smart cookie in my eye.
That all went out the window with his pandering for bailout bucks. It's become more obvious to me that he wants a piece of the Gadianton pie. Hunstman is now on my potty list.

His “sarah sarah sarah” chant at the US Rep nom convention was embarrassing.
We all saw that around the world
As for what mccain says and does that’s 2 different things
He’s probably just locking in the vote that Mutt Romney might get
From what I can tell a VP is irrelevant anyway
Since dan quayle and Murphy brown has anyone ever heard from one? (apart from BYU te he)

I could not vote for Huntsman. I voted for that loony computer guy instead. I fellow made an interesting statement at our last Constitution Party county convention. He said that there were no statesmen in government. Huntsman, Hatch, and Bennett prove his point.

I cannot think of a single LDS candidate for legislative or executive office on the federal level that I would consider voting for. Best I can recall, in the states that fielded LDS candidates since 2006, there were candidates for US Congress that were true constitutionalists, and not a one was elected.

What about Jason Chaffetz, the guy has been beyond stellar in my opinion. Was one of the first to cosponsor HR 1207, has voted in line with pretty much everything I agree with. I look forward to moving into his district (even though he lives only 2 miles away) next year.lundbaek wrote:I cannot think of a single LDS candidate for legislative or executive office on the federal level that I would consider voting for. I personally think he has been a closet Ron Paul convert for just about long as you and I have. Just not stupid enough to admit it.

You are right, Spence. We came back to AZ from SLC just over a year ago and I had forgotten about Chaffetz, and I remember I was so happy to see him oust Chris Cannon.
Why would Chaffetz have been stupid to make known his allegiance to constitutional and moral principles?

I was given to believe that Congressman Chaffetz was a cosponsor of a bill to audit the Federal Reserve, but have since learned this is not the case. Jim Bishop, another Congressman from Utah is a cosponsor, but not Chaffetz, so this may shed a little light on how well informed he really is and where he really stands.

Jason has been a co-sponsor since week one of the bill being introduced.
As to your other question. Chaffetz got a lot of support from enthused Ron Paul fans at the Convention, he nearly pulled off the upset but needed a primary.
The reason I say it is stupid for him to come out and say he is a Paulite, is because the people of this state are fairly stupid. Maybe not stupid, but ill-informed by the media. For example, I have family members who pass him off as crazy without ever finding out what Paul is about. Many people are just the same way. I did as well before I found out what he was about.

Re: Governor Huntsman - Well, Now You Know
You read me right, Spence, but I may be wrong. Trying to keep up with Utah politics and politicians now that we are back in Arizona is someting I'm not doing very well at.
Your accessment of Utah voters fits with my accessment of them from the 18 months we lived in SLC, as well as my opinion of most LDS voters here in AZ as well. Maybe it is because we are used to taking direction from a prophet without question that many LDSs look for an LDS political leader as well; one who appears to be a good LDS so they can assume that he will be guided by the Lord as the prophet is. Romney really seemed to fit the bill, especially to those LDSs who did not learn of his actions and statements that showed his disdain for certain moral and constitutional principles and lack of courage to tell the truth about the First Vision when he had the chance. I showed news reports of his blunders to many LDSs, and practically all either refused to believe them, declaring them fakes, or claimed he had good reasons that we could not understand.
