Brian Hales interview

Post by cab »

This is a fascinating interview with Brian Hales (the chief LDS apologist on polygamy) and Michelle Brady Stone on her podcast called “132 problems” where she dives into the murky waters of Mormon polygamy...

You be the judge but I think that Brian Hales did more to justify peoples’ questions and concerns about the mainstream narrative of our church than he did to alleviate doubts…. To me, he just seemed out of touch and down right condescending.

I short, he makes an appeal to authority and essentially tells Michelle and other truth seekers like her to just stop what they are doing…. And it falls completely flat… Hopefully arrogant responses like his are coming to an end…

To Brian Hales in the video, truth is whatever the current position of the church is. Period. There is no truth that is in conflict with the church. The church defines truth. This is the source of disagreement in the video, but it doesn't get identified. Instead, they discuss issues.

I'm not real concerned with polygamy. I personally think Joseph was against it, but he may have married people that he did not have sex with. But, even if he did, there were women that needed looking after for financial support and it also increased membership, so I can see advantages. I do think that some in Brigham's time were horny toads. However, in the hundred years the church has not officially condoned it, I don't think it has gained popularity. As happy as some polygamists seem to be, there are many problems with the practice, even if it were legal.

I am far more concerned with recent activities of the Q15 that appear to be blatantly satanic. Joining and partnering with numerous purely evil organizations is not something that I see Christ as recommending. Donating hundreds of millions of dollars to racists, queers, terrorists, and prevaricators, such as DNC, NAACP, Black Lives Matter, etc., does not strike me as being Christlike either.

But the Holy Grail of all screw-ups has to be the covid hoax. It is hard to imagine them handling it any worse. Of course, the very fact that they are left wing socialists, preclude them from being Christian in the first place. That alone, proves they believe that Lucifer had the better plan.

In Jesus' time, the Pharisees and Sadducees at least probably believed that they were following the word of God. I do not think a person with a brain can claim that about the current leaders.

While the Covid fiasco is very alarming and seemingly symptomatic of a people who don't have the revelatory gifts they claim to have, the fact that this same church taught for half a century that entering into polygamy was the highest and holiest ordinance of exaltation and that exaltation was impossible without it takes the cake IMO.

Brian can be condescending and will defend Brethrenism to the bitter end… but he’s right about Joseph Smith being a polygamist.

I haven’t watched this episode yet, but I’ve watched a good amount of her first episodes. She is sweet. I like her and her mom Janeen Brady - that’s a good episode with her mom. But she gets so emotional all the time and is always on the verge of tears, so I stopped watching because of that. Also because I don’t want to hear about polygamy all the time.
