I don't know why they just did not mention it. But back to the corruption we have in some of the Bible scriptures. The Catholic Church hid that Christ was married. Celibate priests anyone? He had to be married to be a Rabbi! Also his role as our example and He got baptized to fulfill all righteousness so He would have gotten married too, etc. They'd have to hide his children too. I have no idea about James. Ever wonder why Mary Magdalene was the first to see Christ? Why he told her not to touch him? Because she was his wife. She had that privilege to see him first as his wife. In those days no other woman would be touching him for Him to have to say that. If He had a wife . . . then He had children. In fact it looks like He had several wives (Mary & Martha) but let's not get into that can of worms. I opened enough throwing the John thing out there - went right past the argument over whether He was married or had children! Boy I'm brave!
Of interest - this scripture has a lot of meat to chew on:
D&C 77:14
14 Q. What are we to understand by the little book which was eaten by John, as mentioned in the 10th chapter of Revelation?
A. We are to understand that it was a mission, and an ordinance, for him to gather the tribes of Israel; behold, this is Elias, who, as it is written, must come and restore all things.

I agree that it is highly likely that Mary Madeline was Jesus' wife. Whether he had additional wives or not, is really a matter of perspective. A case can be made either way.
In regards to D&C 77:14, are you aware that D&C 27 has Elias who restores all things and John the Beloved as seperate and distinct individuals? (See D&C 27:6, 12)

Its sad that you have to be brave to state a historical fact. But yes, He was married, and with multiple wives also, and probably many children also.
But, very few there be that will even consider it. The "great whore of all the earth" has been very successful in "perverting the right ways of the Lord", and in perverting the truths of JC.
The false traditions continue, even among the "children of the light".
