Anisotropic jewels=in pure (crossed-polarized) light will display all the colors of the rainbow
Isotropic jewels=in pure light will go black and/or show no colors
The 12 precious stones of New Jerusalem (Revelation 21:19-20):
1. Jasper
2. Sapphire
3. Chalcedony (agate)
4. Emerald
5. Sardonyx (onyx)
6. Sardius (carnelian)
7. Chrysolite
8. Beryl
9. Topaz
10. Chrysoprasus
11. Jacinth
12. Amethyst
ALL of the above precious stones are anisotropic (display colors).
To note, ALL of the following are isotropic (dark/no colors):
1. Diamonds
2. Rubies
3. Garnets
Etc.
What is treasured by the world? CROSS polarization? Wisdom vs. rubies? What is the hardest mineral? So much symbolism here,
just want to share.
Of the 28 stones that are normally regarded as gemstones, only 16 are anisotropic.

This is interesting. I was recently leaning about Goethe's theory of color; also very interesting.

What are the odds?
Of the 28 stones that are normally regarded as gemstones, only 16 are anisotropic. Since anisotropic behaviour has only been discovered in the last century (and John wrote Revelation almost 2000 years ago), the odds of 12 stones picked randomly being in that one group, is about 1 in 1,000! In fact, this analysis assumes that all gems have the same probability of being included, but this is not the case (as some gems are considered more precious than others). Hence, the actual probability is much much lower than 1 in 1,000 for naming all the 12 gems, that are all anisotropic gems, in the book of Revelation!
Keep in mind that there are a few assumptions being made here, i.e. the stones are a literal description of heaven (which I believe are) and that the light in heaven will be like “pure” light, which emanates through the gems...
Could it be possible that God, in choosing the stones for the foundation of the new temple, deliberately avoided stones that would lose their colour and instead chose stones that disperse light to produce brilliant rainbow effects?
"...and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like unto an emerald." (Revelation 4:3)
Finally, some discussion about probability and flying colors taking place there.
Sadly the same can’t be said about the discussion here.

8. Beryl
In case you want some of one of the rarest gemstones, and the rarest form of Beryl - Red Beryl is found at only three locations in the world, two of them in Utah: Thomas Range and the Wah Wah Mountains in west-central Utah: and the Black Range in New Mexico
9. Topaz
If you want some gemstone quality champagne Topaz, you can hike about 2km away from Thomas Range over to Topaz Mountain!

Wondering what category the Seer Stones fall under aka the Urim and Thummim?
