I really appreciate David Whitmer. I think he’s a very compelling and important voice in viewing Mormonism beyond the world of orthodox LDS. I believe that at least part of his assessment of the early Mormon movement is true (they were laying groundwork for a greater work that would be done in the future, early church quickly fell off course, LDS institution was/is not led by a constant stream of 15 prophets, seers and revelators). I don’t know if his entire assessment of Joseph is true (I could see David being right, I could see David being wrong)
I respect David for not being happy with how things were going and pushing back rather than falling in line.
