“The survey asked voters who are likely to participate in the 2024 Texas Republican primary election who they would vote for out of six Republican candidates including DeSantis and Trump. DeSantis was the top choice, with 43% of respondents saying they would vote for him if the primary election were held today. Trump came in second place with 32%. DeSantis’ support among the surveyed voters surged to 66% when they were asked about a situation in which Trump would decline to run in 2024.”

At the end of this article it says new polls today show DeSantis ahead in New Hampshire, Iowa, Georgia, Florida and Texas.

The danger for republicans here is that Trump might decide to “burn down” the gop house and run as an independent or third party. In doing so he would peel off his true believers a deprive the republicans of any chance of victory in 2024.

This is indeed very possible.

Though I fear something else might be afoot.

Socrates, Martin Armstrong's computing system that generally forecasts economic indicators, is pessimistic on the outlook of there being an election in 2024. I admit what I am about to say sounds extreme, but I do see a few ways in which an election does not happen, and I'll list them from least likely to most.

A nuclear attack by either RUS or CHN (more than likely the former) near the time for elections. Probability: VERY LOW

An NBC attack either by a state or by a terrorist organization on a major American city or multiple ones: Probability: VERY LOW to LOW

Another pandemic, more severe than the COVID pandemic, that renders people unable to leave their homes at all, with much more repressive tactics used than in this pandemic. Probability: LOW

Trump gets indicted and sent to prison for any reason (January 6th, business dealings, classified documents, or something yet to be revealed) in the runup to the election. Measures are passed prohibiting any candidate with any evidence of having supported Trump in the past from running for office invoking the Insurrection Act. Probability: LOW to MEDIUM

The above scenario happens exactly as played out but Trump is able to stay out of prison. Probability: MEDIUM

Trump is able to stay out of prison, and is found innocent of the charges, permitting him to run for president. The GOP, wary of how Trump cost them the midterm elections, decides to rig the game for DeSantis. DeSantis wins a grueling primary and polls well versus Biden. Biden decides NOT to seek reelection and Newsom becomes the Democratic nominee for president. Trump decides to run as an independent and comes out with inflammatory rhetoric against both DeSantis and Newsom. Either Trump or DeSantis is assassinated during the campaign and planted evidence points towards a far-right extremist as having done the assassination. Insurrection mounts in the conservative states and the election is called off by Congress. Probability: MEDIUM
