Interesting stake conference

Post by inho »

My Finnish friends told me about stake conference which was held in Helsinki today.

There were some interesting topics:
  • Both the stake president and his counselor talked about preparedness
    • this is perhaps not surprising, the inflation and the high energy prices mean that many Finnish people will struggle when the cold winter comes. Since Finland is not buying electricity from Russia anymore, the prices are really high. This will hit hard those, who rely on electricity in heating their houses.
  • The same counselor also quoted Ezekiel's prophecy against the shepherds of Israel.
    • he did not apply it to the General Authorities, but in some way applied it to the church. At least in a way that hope we are not like that and let us strive to be better shepherds
  • One of the speakers told about his NDE.
    • he didn't go into to too many details, but the point of his talk was that he knows that the spirit world is real since he has been there. His heart had stopped beating and he was resuscitated. During that time he had travelled through a tunnel towards a light. There had been something that he compared to temple. He had conversed with individuals he did not know. They told him it was not his time. He didn’t want to go back, because it felt so good there. He said spirit body is like the physical body, just perfect. He felt like a young man.

Here is the degenerate Weffer prime minister, Sanna Marin dancing in New York. The same evening she was seen slithering all over various men and women. Imagine having this in charge.

Pretty interesting and neat that you have a connection to Finland. It's nice to get perspectives from different locations here. I'm honestly surprised we don't have regular posting members here from different Mormon churches.

To be fair we do have Norwegians, New Zealanders, Mexicans and Japanese among others which is not a bad mix.

Sorry Niemand, this rant is not really against you. I typically like your comments.

Just because I mentioned Finland, one have to complain about the partying socialist Prime Minister. Even though it has nothing to do with the original post. The same happens in every thread. At some point someone starts to complain about leftist political leaders, mainstream media, or the leaders of LDS Church. It is okay to provide constructive criticism against all of them, but not every thread need to be like that. Can't we just once focus on the good instead of all what is wrong in the world?

Again, sorry Niemand, this wasn't really aimed at you. I am just tired with all the negativity in this forum.

The issue in the church is that we frequently get told about natural disasters (probably severe winters in the Finnish instance) and preparedness but never talk about the human generated side apart from maybe breakdown in law and order. In this forum we do. Finland's always had a curious relationship with Russia since independence...

In places like Latin America, where there are a lot of church members, I'm sure many are aware that preparedness issues there are intertwined with bad political and economic management.

FWIW this is a lot better than one of our stake conference talks earlier this year which basically told us to obey worldly authority at all costs. At least it focusses on the gospel. I've been thinking about posting on it.

That is all really encouraging to hear, inho; thank you for sharing. It sounds like the local leaders there are getting instruction from the Holy Ghost, which is absolutely wonderful - it gives me hope!

I would probably fall over and die of shock if anything like this was said here locally, lol, so I'm glad to know there are leaders in some areas that are close to the spirit and are not afraid to share that information with the members. Good stuff.

About the Finnish winter: my understanding is that the coming winter is expected to be quite normal. The problem is the economic situation. The energy prices are really high. Some people will simply not have enough money to heat their houses. This is of course a man-made problem, a direct result of the war in Ukraine.

You might be aware of "Finlandisation", but it seems Marin is doing the opposite. I'm not convinced her actions help either the Finns nor the Ukrainians.

Most of the Finns I've known have been fairly tough people, which is a point in their favour. But it proves what a bad idea it has been for many of them to jettison wood burning stoves.

A cannier Finnish leader would have quietly built more energy links to the west without baiting the Russian bear. Finland has such a low population density that it probably could rely heavily on renewable energy. I know that they have managed forestry which they use to provide energy too

The lockdowns across the world have also generated this issue. The mysterious run on the pound recently is still unexplained.

Thanks for sharing. It's always interesting to hear from other parts of the world.

Regarding NDEs, I recently met a guy named Vinny who died from an overdose of training supplements. He wrote a book about his experience: https://www.amazon.com/Light-After-Deat ... 581&sr=8-1

I met the son of another guy named Scott Drummond who died from a medical mistake after a skiing accident: https://godtv.com/man-pronounced-dead-testimony/

Both had similar experiences.

Personally, I almost died in a paragliding accident when a girl collided with me and collapsed my wing. We both fell 150-200 feet. Prior to going paragliding that morning, I heard a voice telling me twice that I was tired and I should go back to bed. I almost listened. After the accident, the same voice said, "I tried to warn you but you didn't listen. I will be with you to help you through this though."

There is definitely something beyond our everyday understanding. We just need to figure out where to look and how to align ourselves with it.

A little added context to the Finnish discussion.

The prime minister deals with internal affairs of the state.

The President is like a chief embassador and deals with foreign relations.

Energy: homes are primarily heated with oil or by electricity.

Oil process have gone up a lot and to make things worse the minimum purchase in liters also was raised so it's a double whammy.

Electricity prices for some that I know have already gone up from 5 cents to 32 cents, so 6x's.

Prices for wood has gone up and the supply is low. I expect that many will probably "illegally" chop down trees to survive.

Used wood-burning stove prices have gone way up and just aren't really available.

Many have always been supplementing their heating with wood fireplaces.

It is way harder to prep when prices have already gone up, and supplies are low.

Sometimes there are noticable shortages of certain products on store shelves. Sometimes they place a maximum quantity limit on certain items at the grocery stores

Helsinki leadership has been making good efforts to be the best stewards possible within their given parameters.

The Finns are lucky in that respect. If they sre discreet there is plenty of wood in that country.

yeah we can easily put our hands on some trees and we do have an old-school wood stove in the kitchen and heating fireplaces. Although one needs to be repaired...
