I was just hearing how our local high school has a bunch of music students here for a few weeks from Austria. They are excellent symphony musicians. They just attended a local public get-together about domestic violence here and our high school students sang a song at the event. It was explained to the Austrian students what the event and song were about and they were crying. They couldn't believe that violence in homes was such a big deal. The real story is that there is a huge public-money-funded industry that is sure to keep it alive, at least in people's minds, since many jobs are tied to dealing with the supposed threat. If you subsidize it, you're sure to get more of it. Domestic violence is now TOO BIG TO FAIL. That's the story that would be too incredible for the Austrian students to believe.

Don't subsidize madness, if you can help it.

More interaction with the congregation...get a few people up on the stage...ask them some questions, get them to confess they are sinners, offer them healing or cast out their devil's...

In my earlier years the Saturday Sessions were consciously aimed at members of the church, and Sunday was 'for the world' this had a lot to do with many TV stations around the country running our conferences as they had rules to 'balance' and provide charitable kinds of viewing - one reason the church owned a huge number of tv and radio stations through the country, they could never supersede college football but Sunday's were open.

What I'd like to see now is a session that focuses on basically the US/Canada and some that focus on the global church. We have different needs and messages. With the current design we have to infantilize the talks so much they can be translated and make sense in hundreds of languages and countries.

We need to have some decentralized church stuff going on, Area Presidencies need to be grouped and overseen specifically by an Apostle who lives in the area they serve. We have complete bureaucratic control at CHQ anyway, let's get some G70 in those roles and get the apostles out there doing their thing setting the churches outside the 'stakes of zion' in order.

I also would like to hear from people about what's going on world-wide, I'd like to hear about our humanitarian efforts across the globe, don't give me a number, show me what we've done with that %=$$

That would actually be a conference, since some actual conferring would be taking place.

Utahns aren't born brain dead any more than any other state. So it has to be the environment, or culture. Unless Utah doctors really like to prescribe brain altering chemicals.

Don't drink, don't smoke, don't think about the opposite sex, only watch Disney movies that encourage pedophilia, and don't associate with non-members. Believe everything the Q15 say and give them 10% of your money. Gee, what could go wrong?

Hey, Doc, I feel unfulfilled. I'm not really as good as I pretend to be. I'm not rich. I never get a call to be a ward leader. I am depressed. What do you recommend? "Here, take one of these babies everyday."

πŸ˜‚ I used to have an acquaintance who was a nuclear physicist at the height of the Cold War. He told me that very occasionally the physicists from both sides of the Iron Curtain got to meet each other. As you can imagine there was some spying and fishing for information going on, but he also said that there was mutual respect when some of these people met their opposite numbers because they loved talking shop. He said that many of these people weren't even that political, they just loved to talk about something they had in common... that they couldn't with most of the people they lived amongst, because they wouldn't know what they were talking about.

Even at an academic conference, speakers tend to address each other's points instead of talking at each other. It's not just about praising the leader. (Except in some creepy examples like the W.E.F. perhaps.)

To be fair, there is another factor. Utah is higher altitude than many states, so it's thought the thinner air is involved. The stats suggest that there is a similar issue in other Rocky Mountain states where the LDS population is not so high.

The other thing is probably Mormon perfectionism. Everyone trying to look the part and fitting in. If you don't, there are ways and means they'll make you know it.

The no drinking and no smoking bit is probably a good thing.

I think they should dedicate an hour to reading passages from Miracle of Forgiveness.

I think a talk on how Bigfoot is Cain (see Kirtland RM thread) ought to wake people up.

Bookmarked it, thanks for the link. I've always been a fan of this kind of stuff, used to stay up all night listening to Art Bell tell ghost stories, or sightings of the jersey devil/mothman, or discussing the monuments on mars.

Cain being Bigfoot is one of those mormon myths that have been around at least since I was a little kid. An evangelical friend of mine debunked it for me when I was younger by asking the obvious question: "was Cain such a good swimmer that he survived the flood then?" Whoops, yeah, pretty big flaw in that theory. :)

He had one video that was banned from YouTube, it was pretty crazy. Some government dude wrote him an email and disclosed a ton of things. He posted the video to Bitchute, but I can't find it there either.
