This dude has a really twisted understanding of grace and what it means. This is a classical strawman argument- saying the statement says something that it doesn't and then knocking it down with matt 7:21 which is not at all in conflict with the translation in Ephesians 2:5.
He is taking one scripture and arguing against that scripture with one scripture. He should read the rest of the chapter to understand exactly what Paul is saying.
I've watched a few other of his videos. He does the same thing on almost all of them.

Aren't we blessed to have the Book of Mormon to clarify this doctrine.

I find myself agreeing with your take, although I've only watched this vid and not any of his others.John Tavner wrote: ↑October 8th, 2022, 3:08 pm This dude has a really twisted understanding of grace and what it means. If the correct translation is that we are saved by 'favor' instead of 'grace' then that seems to be contrary to the notion that God is no respecter of persons.
It also seems that the vid is just a roundabout way of saying we are saved by works and not by grace, ultimately, though he gives not argument for a baseline standard of what works would be required. Total perfection is the logical conclusion. Which is an impossible standard, therefore no one is saved at all, and the whole thing is for naught. At least that's my instinctive first take.

The BoM only muddies the waters more until you search for what "all you can do" and the references in the BoM as far as what that means. And all you can do is turn to God. We are saved by Grace and not by works. All we can do is turn to God and let Him work in us giving us a new heart and new spirit. The Bible already makes that abundantly clear as long as you read the context of verses inside the context of the entire letter and don't just take a verse and base an entire theology off that verse without context.

It is true that only through the mercy of Jesus Christ can we be saved in the kingdom of Heaven. However, Jesus is the one who requires us to do good works such as repentance and keeping the commandments before he will grant his mercy. We can do all the works without Jesus and never find salvation. However, without doing the works Jesus requires of us, we will not obtain the mercy Jesus can give to us. Works in and of themselves don't save us. But Jesus won't save us without doing the works either.
Ephesians 2:8-10
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
Not a mistranslation but a misunderstanding of how works play a part but are not the saving force within the equation.
