Did Nelson just do a mike drop?

Kind of felt like it.

He became emotional when he said this. It doesn’t look to me like this will be his last conference though someone else posted earlier they thought his Sunday morning talk seemed like it would be his last. Maybe it will be and maybe he knows this. Though it could merely be that he truly loves us (I believe he does) and that the closing song is God Be With You Till We Meet Agains.
I doubt that he knows which one will be last, but he definitely recognizes the plain reality that he's 98 and the probability of making it another year (or 6 months) becomes increasingly unlikely each Conference.

I just saw the same kind of farewell as I did with Elder Bruce R. McConkie in April of 1985. That was a man saying farewell. Sad.

I liked that President Nelson monitors the freedom forum, especially as to the thread about temples those numbers of actually being built or still in planning, getting land, etc.

I don't think he will be around in for Spring conference.

At his age, when people want to go, they will go. He is giving up the ghost.

He could have started off GC on Sat. session but did not; he let Oaks do it. He spoke only 5 minutes and needed a chair by the end of his talk he was tired and winded.

Well that is one of the blessings traditionally given with the higher temple anointing. So he probably has that right to choose.

The true manner of teaching and speaking has been forgotten in a world of fear of saying the wrong thing. Everyone smiles at the perfectly written talks.
There are numerous scriptures that refer to this :

"For at that time the Holy Spirit will teach you what you should say.”

I've watched men that studied a topic before teaching it or giving a discourse. They then take many times to pray for guidance for the moment that they stand up to speak. When they go to speak, the topic is filled with the spirit and the words are from God, NOT A SPEECH WRITER.

It's sad that members of the LDS church are so acclimated to this tradition of reading professionally written speeches that they have no idea what the spirit guided discourse even looks like.
Is a talk less inspired because it is written?
If it's a talk written by speech writers
I believe Russell M Nelson wrote his own talk.
I do not believe that he did. Beliefs are mere speculation.

No that's just called getting old.

I've known plenty of people at that age that when they do not want to live anymore they don't.

They teach that homosexual passion is fine as long as it is kept to the same bounds as heterosexual passion. They no longer teach that nurturing homosexual inclinations is a perversion and a sin.

So is it appropriate for me to tell everyone that I sexually desire the Sister in the front row in Church? Yes or no.

No they do not.

Point me to an actual message in the last 5 years that states same-sex sexual thoughts, feelings, desires is ungodly.

Listen to the podcast.

They proclaim openly that sexually desiring the same-sex is their AUTHENTIC self. It is how they are, nothing is wrong with it.

Anything specifically addressed by the speakers at conference seem to be things approved of or held neutral by the ruling elite of the world. They also are all things that are considered issues for men.

Looking around at the local level at church, I see some different issues that are affecting our church.
  • I see many women and a majority of young women in skin tight and super short clothing at church and church activities.
  • I see a large percentage of young people who believe homosexuality is fine and that same sex marriage should be allowed by the church.
  • I see a large percentage of people who believe abortion isn't a big deal.
  • I see a vast majority of people who believe large families are inconvenient and/or irresponsible and who mock those who choose to follow God's commandments.
  • I see a majority of children who are ill behaved, have no limits, and are no longer removed from public places when they are misbehaving. The parents believe it is abusive to spank, time-out, or often even to say no, and they believe it is the responsibility of everyone else to adapt to their lack of parenting.
  • I see a huge number of youth and young people who have spent their entire lives going to church and know almost nothing about the Gospel. They don't know scripture stories. They don't know the history of the restoration. And they don't have faith or testimonies. Consequently, youth activities become more about having people there than actually building faith.
But our leaders keep talking about the safe topics of abuse, white supremacy, and pornography. Pres. Nelson continually talks about how we have to create a more spiritual people for the coming of Christ. That we need to be spiritually strong and independent. But the actions the church takes eliminate or obfuscate standards while focusing on how people feel. Instead of addressing the real problems in the church, we address the convenient issues that are already considered taboo by its members.

Pres. Nelson may be the most loved Pres. of the church in my lifetime, but I can confidently claim that under his leadership we have seen the most rapid decrease in faith and spirituality in the general membership I have ever witnessed. And this is not just a general culture of less religiosity among people at large. It is most directly due to the policies and changes made under his leadership.
