"The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. The business of Progressives is to go on making mistakes. The business of Conservatives is to prevent mistakes from being corrected. Even when the revolutionist might himself repent of his revolution, the traditionalist is already defending it as part of his tradition. Thus we have two great types—the advanced person who rushes us into ruin, and the retrospective person who admires the ruins. He admires them especially by moonlight, not to say moonshine. Each new blunder of the progressive or prig becomes instantly a legend of immemorial antiquity for the snob. This is called the balance, or mutual check, in our Constitution."
G.K. Chesterton - England 1924

One might call this, the conservative case against conservativism.
"To borrow from Machiavelli, the “effectual truth” of conservative pusillanimity about the right of revolution is perpetual self-subjugation to tyranny. “Weasels, compromisers, mediocrities, and losers” indeed."
"It is the office of prudent men to discern when things are bad enough that action is justified, or even obligatory, and to devise a plan propitious of success."

What the true church has become since a pious fraud was first perpetrated upon us.

This pretty much sums up modern American conservatism: "Dems are the real racists", "there is only one race, the human race".hedgehog wrote: ↑September 27th, 2022, 11:18 am "The whole modern world has divided itself into Conservatives and Progressives. Re: But what have we conserved?
A thought as I drove through Virginia today. Nowadays, if a company wanted to mine or collect natural resources, they have to "not leave a trace" and invest in a miriad of reclamation efforts such as spraying seeds and covering up the mine.
When our ancestors did it over 100 years ago, it is now considered a "historical national monument". A beloved relic of the past.
Why do we hate our modern selves so much?

Re: But what have we conserved?
I read on KSL a few months ago that they are doing this in Utah. So we can assume it's happening all over North America. Unbelievably evil.EvanLM wrote: ↑October 4th, 2022, 4:08 pm Environmental Agents in Hazmat Suits caught Poisoning Fish in New Brunswick River | Sept 8th 2022 this is a video on utube . . .
