On My Soapbox Again
At a meeting last evening of over 100 people anxious to save our nation for the next generation, I was allotted one minute to remind them that Saturday, 17 September, is the 235th anniversary of the signing of the United States Constitution. (Very few seemed to be aware of that fact.) Following the meeting, an active member of a local Lutheran Church caught up with me and afforded me the opportunity to tell him that I and other members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have "a doctrinal imperative or divine mandate" to learn and support the principles of that Constitution.
One might wonder what gives me the right to make such a brash statement. Briefly, here are some of my many reasons:
In the April 2021 General Conference President Dallin H. Oaks gave an address entitled: “Defending Our Divinely Inspired Constitution”. Among his statements, these stood out to me in particular: He stated that “Our belief in divine inspiration gives Latter-day Saints a unique responsibility to uphold and defend the United States Constitution”. He also said “We should learn and advocate the inspired principles of the Constitution."
Included in the summary of the 98th Section of the Doctrine and Covenants is the statement "The saints are to befriend the constitutional law of the land". In Verse 6 we read "...I, the Lord, justify you, and your brethren of my church, in befriending that law which is the constitutional law of the land:".
Included in the summary of the 101st Section of the Doctrine and Covenants iss the statement "The Lord established the Constitution of the United States." I Verse 80 we read "...I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto that very purpose,..."
In the October 1987 General Conference, the Prophet, President Ezra Taft Benson, spoke these words in his address "Our Divine Constitution": “How then can we best befriend the Constitution in this critical hour and secure the blessings of liberty and ensure the protection and guidance of our Father?” He then proceeded to tell us how, an included these statements:
“First and foremost, we must be righteous."
“Second, we must learn the principles of the Constitution in the tradition of the Founding Fathers."
“Third, we must become involved in civic affairs to see that we are properly represented."
“Fourth, we must make our influence felt by our vote, our letters, our teaching, and our advice. We must become accurately informed and then let others know how we feel."
That word "must" makes those statements a commandment to me.

Re: On My Soapbox Again
I believe that if a Church authority were to state, especially in a general conference, the 1/2 of what I wrote here, there would be retribution against the Church from elements of our FedGov.

I am sure! Which is why they don't! I read once a revelation given to John Taylor in 1886 ( the lost revelation which caused his son and a few others to be exd) and reported by his bodyguard, which stated that the church would be in bondage by the 7th president. And so we are. Being a 501 c3 puts a real cramp on things.

Wow, I haven't heard of this revelation or the background story of his son and others ex'ed over it. Sounds very very interesting and possibly pertinent to our current scenario.solonan wrote: ↑September 16th, 2022, 1:43 pm

It's the 1886 revelation. John Taylor's son, John W. Taylor, was excommunicated for defending its contents in the early 1900s. He was just a fall guy though. He allowed it to happen to him to protect Joseph F. Smith and others.Cruiserdude wrote: ↑September 16th, 2022, 2:13 pmWow, I haven't heard of this revelation or the background story of his son and others ex'ed over it. Oh yeah yeah, okay, I think I remember something about that now....Wow. Some of those early leaders sure were actual seers and prophesied correctly of what was to befall the Saints in future times. They knew exactly what was coming as our hearts desired more and more of Babylon.....and we sure got Babylon alright.Luke wrote: ↑September 16th, 2022, 2:26 pmIt's the 1886 revelation. No, I have a copy of it. Loren C Woolley made a statement of when it occurred. John Taylor's son found it at his father's desk after the death. He took a copy of it before giving it to the church authorities who quickly lost it because the subject was an unfavorable one. I'll send it to you and you decide what to do with it.

Re: On My Soapbox Again
Please let's not drift away from my message to y'all if you want to help save America for the next generation. These are things we need to do, not just read or hear about.
“We should learn and advocate the inspired principles of the Constitution."
A couple hours ago I ran into a lady from the Netherlands who heard what I said in that meeting last evening, and told me of her serious concern that America is gravitating toward what the Netherlands are today - deep over their heads into socialism. Sadly, I know of many Americans who prefer principles of socialism.
