Server / Site Updates This Week(end)

Just want to let everyone know about some server / forum updates that will be happening hopefully this week(end). There will be a time when the forum is down for a few hours.

UPDATES:
  • Server updates including migrating to newer MySQL and PHP versions.
  • As the developers of this forum software (phpBB) make updates, I also update this forum and have to keep the forum theme design updated to work with those updates.
  • Minor design tweaks to the regular view of the forum.
  • The biggest change that will be of interest to forum users is the ability to switch from the normal light style to a dark style. This can especially be nice if you're browsing the forum in the dark and don't want the glaring brightness of a white page shining back at you

I was on a site that had updated to a system that allowed a simple cut and paste to be downloaded directly to the site . So, If I do a screen grab , I can just hit paste and it's on my post. I have no idea if that is alot of work or not... I know nothing at all about website engineering. thanks.

edit to add: I thought you were also asking for suggestions. Now I realize that you weren't .

Suggestions are always welcome.. some user suggestions have been implemented over the years, others haven't. :) It's always good to discuss though.

Also, I usually anticipate there will naturally be some feedback after changes like this take place, that might require further tweaking.

Looks good. Also that little flame button is a nice touch. Well done for timing it so the site would be down while all us Brits were sleeping ;)

I like the β€œForum Search” button. 8-)

It helped me check the accuracy of my previous post: search.php?keywords=Dismantled+&terms=a ... mit=Search

Really enjoying the dark theme. Thanks!

One observation related to it: When in dark mode, it is difficult to distinguish between the read and unread threads - Dark Blue and Dark Gray against the Dark Gray background. Don't know if it would be possible to update the "read" icon to a little lighter blue or something. Just throwing it out there, I will still continue to use the dark mode... so much better on my eyes.

so what happened to "your posts" - ?
in the menu when you click on the 3 horizontal lines at the top left.
This was very helpful - as it showed all the threads that you've commented in.

And why now - is there "New posts" (is this new)
and Latest posts.

whats the difference ?
sounds the same to me.

I, also, miss not being able to click on "your posts". I didn't notice it because my bookmark is set to "your posts" (which is where I log in) - so I didn't even realize it was gone until Being There's post. That's where I always go first, to read those, then look at "unread posts".

Outer Darkness should have dark theme enforced with no ability to change mode

I agree it’s very hard to tell what threads are read/unread. I think an east fix would be to put a light circle border around the circle/caption bubble for the unread posts.

i think its cool πŸ‘ though i agree w/ ^cyclops point about icon colour contrast

tho i am sad that i cant use coloured underlines anymore 😞 itll either be visible for those on πŸŒ™ mode, or those on 🌞 mode, but not both

edit: then again πŸ€” i wonder if maybe it cud work anyway, given how close the toggle night mode button is

Where's the Thank You button? Oh, so it's there now. Well, it wasn't, at one point. Love the Latest Posts flame.

search.php?keywords=pTOlORk4
or
search.php?keywords=Eu_pTOlORk4

Should find two other related threads, but it's not working. :?

viewtopic.php?p=1303018#p1303018 is the one that it doesn't find.

You can try to pick colors that work on both dark and light backgrounds. I'd have to look to see if there's any other solution on that feature.

I miss "your posts" too. If I commented, it helped me keep track of posts I was interested in.

The "Your Posts" link is back.

And I removed "New Posts" because there is almost no difference between that link and the "Latest Posts" link.

I didn't change anything about the way the search function works. Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

"Your posts" is useful because I can see if people have replied to me.

Yay! Like silverado, it helps me keep track of threads I am interested in.
