Trials of Faith in the light of Proving Contraries

Jared Halverson addresses trials of faith by discussing the principle of "proving contraries".
Joseph Smith said "by proving contraries, truth is made manifest". Proving contraries is finding the balance between contrarian principles such as justice/mercy, heart/head, unity/diversity, faith/works, etc. Basically the principle is balancing 2 truths that pull against each other. If a good attribute is taken to an extreme it becomes a vice.
I think that Jared Halverson is an intellectually honest person and has decades of experience in dealing with these issues.
