Romney voted against her for the lower court, but votes for her to the Supreme Court? That makes no sense.

He isn't compromised. This is who he has always been. He was a republican in Massachusetts after all.
Romney, like Cox and our church leaders, value the opinions and ideals of the educated, professional aristocracy more than they value any libertarian or conservative principles. This wasn't that big of a deal to most republicans because for the most part Republicans since Bush Sr have been operating as lesser democrats with "compassionate conservatism", etc. These guys won't ever cause waves with their peers. They value the collegiality that exists behind the scenes in Washington much more then they value individual rights and liberties.
Enter Trump, who was a response to a dearth of republican leadership in dealing with the corruption of HRC and Obama. Trump is loud, boisterous, and very common. He is of the wrong class and no one wants to hang with him at the country club. Worse, he actually seemed to care more about the founding principles of our nation than any other republican in recent memory. And he actually represented the position of the common as an individual with rights instead of treating him with condescenscion and as a pawn to gain/wield political power.
Ever since Trump, guys like Romney have been decidedly anti-republican. Or they want to get the republican party back to the elitist country club rules it operated under pre-trump. Trump, and the people who supported him, are an embarrassment.
They despise the common man and want nothing to do with their opinions and values. Romney hates the fact that you believe you actually have a voice and a say. He hates the fact that Trump was allowed to happen, and he is never going to let that happen again if he can help it.
This is why he is all in on Jan 6th being a coup. This is why he is all in on Trump trying to overthrow the government. This is why he is now siding with democrats on nearly everything. The common man can be silent or be dependent, but they must never be allowed to think they are actually in control every again.

He's compromised in that he is a full-on Gadianton, even heads a secret society in DC called the Alfalfa Club

I had to look that up:
Legend has it that the club was named after the alfalfa plant because of the plant’s thirst. The name implies that its members, like alfalfa, will do “anything for a drink.”
You have to be invited to join the Alfalfa Club — you have to be rich and famous or rich and powerful, or just rich or maybe just powerful to be accepted.
Members have included presidents, Supreme Court justices, senators, and billionaires. Lots of billionaires. Big-name journalists, who also attend, and who revel in the idea that they speak truth to power, seem to find no irony in their presence at the event.
What happens at these dinners is mostly secret. Jokes from some presidents who address this exclusive club do get out, but nothing substantive. Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) was the keynote speaker this year (2020). Ben Stiller was his guest. (President Donald Trump has been invited, ever since he was elected, but has never attended.)
At a dinner a few years ago, one Alfalfa guest said that the event is “about relationships” in Washington. That is absolutely true.
But don’t think for a second that this reflects bipartisan comity. The “haves” with power seek an understanding with one another, in private. And the public is none the wiser. The status quo keeps all of them afloat, and it takes precedence over all other values. No matter what crisis the country is experiencing, these folks get dressed up and pretend that, really, nothing has changed or will change. Power remains with the wealthy and privileged, no matter who holds political office. Their slogan is: Don’t rock the boat.

Romney so despised Trump, that he publicly sought his support during his 2012 run for Prez, and had a press conference when Trump agreed…..
Trump was once a darling in DC & Hollywoods eyes……but then, when pitted against his past good friend Hillary, at the drop of a hat they became mortal enemies, and supposedly still to this day….
the theater created to influence & divide the American citizenry is quite complicated, but masterfully executed election after election…and the majority of the voting citizens fall for the same song & dance time after time…….

His condescending statements in the poor were a good giveaway.
