General Conference Sat Session - impressions

I'm disgusted w/ a lot of policies but to be fair, this GC (sat session) had some great talks and definitely spirit inspired (for the most part). I enjoyed it!
The British 70 guy did a fantastic job - I love this direct talk where we talk about the love of the Lord but get down to doctrine/law/right and wrong.
Nothing really threw me off except for continuing to call this a global pandemic.
I do have a question - I get the impression the # of missionaries have gone down quite a bit - does anyone have any info on this?

See the statistical report thread.
Yes, missionary numbers have been dropping in general since 2013. Last year it went up, but...

Yes, very inspiring. Almost every speaker has mentioned the atonement of Jesus Christ - including Elder Christofferson (listening atm to him).
Notes: 1- Sister Eubank was released, sort of - not effective until August 1st.... What will she be doing the next 16 weeks, I wonder? Anyway, with the release, we were not asked to sustain her in that calling she was "released" from.
2- Elder Anderson noted with emphasis that the Church supports the LGBTQ bill in Arizona... I'm curious about that bill!
3 - Elder Renlund spoke of the importance of "natural laws" - certainly important! I want to re-read his words. (Was he conflating medical doctors' counsel with natural law?)

This one?

The one that will force business owners to violate their religious convictions in who they choose or choose not to do business with (and guaranteed to only be applied against Christians, and not against discriminating Muslims)?
I thought we were all about letting people cancel those they perceive as undesirables now. It's all the rage these days. But I'm not really surprised, since it's squarely in line with their being in favor of coerced injections and against religious exemptions from them.
I see the bill lets churches be exempt so that's really all that matters, isn't it?

The best support we as a church can give the LGBTQ community is to preach repentance to them and to stigmatize the homosexual behavior, otherwise we become part of the problem and not part of the solution. God will hold us accountable if we enable this gross sin.

Yea, the brethren are real good at "conflating", look at how three apostles (Cook, Ballard and Anderson) conflated "nationalism" with "sexism" and "racism" in their general conference talk of Oct 2016.

There was a thread here about it back in Feb. I was curious about it, too, and found a couple things that concerned me when I dug a little into it. Thread and my findings here:

Just heard Pres. Nelson's remarks (Sun morning session) and I found them on the mark with repenting and staying close to God by how we live.

Agreed P Nelson delivered a great talk, and would deem this scripture - it was well put. A focus on repentance should be continual in our talks.

Yes throw the members and citizens under the bus while churches are free to do whatever they want.

This is why the church leaders' calls for religious liberties ring hollow. Because they are only interested in the freedom of the institution, while supporting legislation that restricts the freedom of the individual. A big unaddressed topic in the church today is the principles of liberty. Self-preservation (corporate or individual) leads to spiritual death. Whosever shall seek his life shall lose it.

I have often wondered about this. I think the church leadership, composed of bright educated people, really doesnt understand the tactics of the enemies of Christianity and the West. They are very open to reasonable compromises that make them sound Christian but are tactically short sighted…because they think their enemies are like them and operate in good faith. “We just want protections for the LGBTQ community” and the church leaders think “Hey, that good and fair” not seeing the LGBTQ community sees the law as a beach head for 15 more laws and lawsuits to destroy the church with. I find this puzzling but can only conclude they are amazing apolitical and lack this long term strategic thinking because they are usually honest brokers (even when I disagree with them). But supporting laws like this is handing the rope we can all be hung with.

The last two years have really exposed these guys as not being up to the task, at best. All my life I was told our leaders were prophets who could see far beyond what we could, and that would enable them to lead us through troubling times, giving us a clear path forward. But all I've seen is blunder after blunder from them, miscalculating the enemy, falling for their sophistry, and being blindsided left and right. And that's giving them the benefit of the doubt as to their true intentions. It's gotten so bad, their apologists are starting to sound like Qanon loyalists on Trump after the 2020 election, saying they're playing 4D chess, just wait, any day now, you'll see they knew all along... Nope, sorry, you people are literally hallucinating.

Let's not be naïve about these church leaders and regard them as victims of their own misunderstanding, these are knowing miscreants who are carrying out their marching orders from Babylon the Great!

It's an EXTREMELY wicked bill. What a bunch of hypocrites the Church is.
This is the bill

In other words, it bans any professional services from working with that 12 year old girl who thinks she is a boy helping her to understand she really is a boy.
It is sick, twisted and evil....and the Church supported it.
So much for Oaks talk; put your money where your mouth is.
