If it's real, then I applaud Chris Rock for having the poise to press on. But if it's staged – why? Doesn't Will Smith have a squeaky clean image that he'd rather preserve?

Will Smith is a &#%!. His wife probably made him do it. What a disgrace he’s become.

Yeah if you watch it, Will was laughing at the joke, but Jada was not amused. I guess he felt like he needed to stand up for her. (why since she likes to cheat on him in their "open marriage".) Too many people around the net stating it was staged because the failed and burning Oscars needed an attention pick me up. How convenient that Will went on to win best Actor to the praise and cheers of the crowd? They even laughed when he slapped Rock. All a disgrace if you ask me.

I don't care about this directly. What I want to know is what they're trying to distract me from. It may just be an attempt by the media to draw attention away from the many failures of narrative the wicket-that-be have suffered lately. Perhaps a stunt for some movie.

I didn't watch the Oscars but this does seem staged. Could be a way to get more people talking and thinking about the Oscars. It got us talking about it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

It does make you wonder. Will looked & acted pretty pissed, even after hitting him - but he IS an actor. Either way, it shows a lack of integrity - like awards are given to people who behave violently in breaking the law.

Will and Jada have an open marriage. They both say they have had many "entanglements". I think Will's anger issues come from his utter unhappiness due to his immoral life choices. That is not a happy marriage.

Most people never even knew the Oscars were on otheriwise. And by backing the reset, not only has the film industry cost itself thousands of jobs, it has also helped kill off cinemas.

As for Will Smith... after all that stuff with Jayden and his wife shagging around maybe he needed to man up. Looked like a staged act though.

Staged or not, it is just a distraction.

Whether or not it was staged, this shouldn't even be on the radar of anyone. I'm not saying it was a staged distraction, but I am saying it is being blown up to be the latest shiny object for the serfs.

I can tell it was staged because Chris Rock did not even hold up his hands to defend himself. He saw the slap coming and let it happen….not a natural reaction.
Also Will laughed at the joke about his wife.

Chris Rock ad lib'd that joke about Jada, the whole situation was far from staged. Also in 2016 Rock made a joke about Jada so I think there is a little bit of history and why Will finally thought it justifiable to react. There is no honor in defending your wife from a joke when you let her sleep around with other men. Will Smith and his family has finally gone from hero to zero in my books.

I am on team Will smith. He laughed at the joke until Jada gave him the look. He was defending his wife like the good old days. Her head is shaved for medical reasons. I think everyone is on their last reserved nerve. Dont really like either of them though. In Victorian Times a man would slap another man with his glove if someone dishonored a woman. Then they would have a duel. What happened to the manly men? Now it is the husbands that take the kids out at church and also to shop at Walmart. Not sure where the Moms are.

I was in martial arts. I know fake fighting when I see it. This was laughable. His arm was extended on the hit. This completely reduces impact. This is how they used to do it on the Jerry Springer show. This is how you avoid really hurting someone. Stomping his foot on the ground really gave it away. They did this in wrestling and it's how they do it in high school plays. This was too obvious.
One thing I learned in martial arts is never slap anyone in the face. Their adrenaline goes through the roof. I didn't see Chris Rock react that way. The slap was not hard at all. If it was you would have seen more agression, pain, or both.

The first time I saw the clip I could not believe how bad it was. Everything from fakeness to reaction made this look like an acting job. This did not look like a real fight at all.

Couldn't he have just got Alec Baldwin to shoot him?

It's a celebration of the life of Oscar Wilde.

Typical black gets angry and can't control himself. He never learned that words are just words. You can laugh if they are funny or not if they aren't. But the old adage "Sticks and stones can break my bones, but words can never hurt me" just shows that Will has no self control.

His son's a total mess too. Not so much the gender thing, as being completely spoilt, getting put in film roles by his dad etc.
