'Doomsday' Boeing 747 dubbed 'Flying Pentagon' deployed to England

Post by Ontario »

'Doomsday' Boeing 747 dubbed 'Flying Pentagon' that was designed in 70s for US military leaders in case of nuclear war is deployed to England

The US Air Force has sent it's 'Doomsday' plane to Europe as part of a fleet of jets to support President Joe Biden's four-day mission to bolster unity against the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The E4-B Nightwatch is designed to be a command and control centre in the event of nuclear war.

The US keeps at least one of the fleet of four on permanent standby for immediate launch in the event of a nuclear conflict.

Earlier this week, a senior Kremlin official warned that Moscow reserved the right to use nuclear weapons if there was an 'existential threat' against the country.

One of the jets - which are based on a Boeing 747 and first entered service in the 1980s - flew to RAF Mildenhall in Suffolk yesterday, having refuelled midair while crossing the Atlantic.

The aircraft are designed to survive the electromagnetic pulse caused by a nuclear detonation and maintain contact with US military units across the globe to respond to a hostile attack.

The jets, which have been upgraded since their first deployment are able to pass orders from the president to US nuclear submarines and the country's ICBM silos.

I took this literally and thought it would be a pentagonal shaped aircraft.

Do you have a source for this?

I saw a news report here in the UK regarding it this evening.

What I'm wondering is: does anyone have the quote or just more 1984 stuff?

You're wondering if it's been memory holed?

I'm wondering if the media are using other media members as sources and it was never said. My prediction is that is what happened and it surprises me that so many people believe what they hear.

Ontario: you seem to think this is some kind of omen, do you know what this plane is, even or just fostering fear posting this? This is a plane with a bunch of radios on it. It was for many years in the air all the time, in case of communication disruption or first strike or EMP, etc... A few years back it was placed on alert to launch at a moment's notice. to be in the air. The notion of "doomsday" hails back to cold war and was there to communicate with subs, remote military bases, rerouted bombers and tankers, etc... Not sure it is even that relevant to communications today, we have Internet, satellite handheld radios, not reliant on land lines and not even postured for a retaliatory strike. But, should you need lots of radios (non-beyond line of sight communications) and likely some surveillence, ok.

This guy argues that Russia and US have basically built weapons that neutralizes each other strength. The shoulder launched Javelin neutralizes Russias tanks. But Russia neautralizes Americas aircraft with cheap and effective SAM and the hypersonic missle can reach US aircraft carriers.

US media said Russia using the hypersonic missle was a sign Russia was losing...but it might have been a show of strength to keep US forces away.

Same with a nofly zone and polish planes. Russia can shoot jets down with small, mobile, inexpensive surface to air missles.

Read the article to see why both sides might be pushed into nukes very soon.

Was not the plan to trigger a nuclear war all along, then rich old men get locked underground with many beautiful young women for several years? Was plan of Dr. Strangelove as I recall. Slim Pickens riding the nuke to the ground like a rodeo bull.
