Forum Spam

It's been a long standing problem, but perhaps highlighted even more so with the latest war... the forum is full of spam. Numberless topics created without any substance with lots of ridiculous exaggerated speculative nonsense about anything and everything. Lots of it coming from the same posters.

Can this be stopped? or can the individual posters please think about what they are doing?

Some of the topics are just a ridiculous headline, maybe even a ridiculous exert from the article, and then a link. It really is diluting the forum and makes it appear to be full of senseless drivel.

I view the "latest posts" to see what is interesting, but unfortunately the good topics are getting lost in the spam.

Re: Forum Spammer

posts like this - the OP, are usually a form of Spam itself;
being that - when they see things - anyone or anything they don't like or agree with,
or that doesn't go right along with their views, or the "all is well in Zion " song,
they will call it spam, and post something like this.

He’s referring to the prolific posts by -Being There- that follow the same format of a one liner followed by a sensational YouTube video.

There are three posters whose posts I won't click on. I've clicked plenty of times and only ever found junk.

Not because I disagree with them, but because there is really nothing but spam links.

Once in awhile the title will catch my attention, but then I see who posted it and I know there is nothing there to see.

I do wonders sometimes if they are trying to move down important topics they don't like.

I agree there are 11 today alone from being there all junk. should either not be in "general discussions" or linked to one long list of items like others have done to update their daily look at list over time. but this is terrible spam and making everything hard to navigate.

I agree on encouraging those avid, 'latest-news' type of posters, who simply paste excerpts from outside sources without any of their own insights, or a headline and a youtube video, to simply create their own 'megathread' where they can compile new entries that go along with these topics.

This isn't an unreasonable request. It would keep the number of threads down and make it easier for others to navigate to threads which begin with original thoughts followed by genuine discussions, while still enabling the news aggregator-type accounts a venue to post their sensational findings.

You can hardly call this spam (my first topic in a long time) when you have just created about 10 topics yourself with all speculative headings and breaking news items from questionable sources. Do you even read, check, and believe the articles that you link to?

Well here's a thought. Maybe if it's a news related article it could be posted in the section clearly labeled "News". As it is, I've probably read less than .1% of all posts on this forum and never will for this simple reason - I've learned to filter most of it out.

After seeing how bugged some get from others posting 'out there' threads, I feel really grateful that it's very easy for me to not click on threads.

questionable sources ?

Oh, now that's a good one. lol.
I suppose you listen to KSL News, CNN and all MSM so you will get the right information
and be "correctly" informed;
and not fall for all this Fake News stuff. lol.
Do you even read, check, and believe the articles that you link to?
I didn't know I have to.

just because I post something doesn't mean that I watch it, or even agree with it, or have to.
It's not my info. or videos.
However most of the time I skip through them and post them if I think they have some info. of value
or that someone might find it interesting.
But I post things, not because it necessarily reflects my views;
I have a little bit more open mind than that and care what others might be interested in
and like to see as well.

So if you don't like or agree with things I post, or it seems to bother you,
just move on to the next thread - to your comfort zone where you fit in -
you know, where you and others think and share the same delusional mindset -
believing MSM and all their lies, and where the real Fake News is.

right, so you acknowledge you spam the forum.

Can't you see that it is counter productive because it dilutes the topics of interest with these random and mostly pointless topics scattered everywhere? You've said it yourself, you aren't even interested yourself in some but you post them anyway. As it is, you're not the only one who does it anyways.

As some suggest, a focused area for these topics/points would be more helpful than throwing them out as separate topics all the time.

But you go right ahead and continue arguing with yourself and posting pointless topics like this.

There is a feature on this forum, it may be friend or foe. You can list someone as your friend (if they consent?) or a foe and then you will not see the content of their posts.

Even if you click on their thread, you will just see (Foe) or some such thing, and not their posts content.

Or just recognize a name you don't like, and don't click on it.

Some times something looks bad, and then it turns out to be interesting.

And vice versa.

Just block Being There/add Being There to your foes. As I was looking at the list in general discussions, I considered blocking him but decided not to quite yet. Then I landed on this post. That's the solution if it bugs you so bad.

It was an alphabet agency that discussed the best ways to steer a forum away from important topics. They mentioned many things such as:

1.) Posting multiple new threads to bury informative topics.
2.) Repeatedly discrediting any information by a reputable poster, casting doubt with falsified information that appears to be factual, linking to multiple sites.
3.) Constantly change the subject until the OP topic is forgotten

There were others methods. I will try to find the actual list.

I saw a NATO document from forty or more years ago talking about similar tactics to deal with Far Left groups. Get them tied up in minutiae, infighting, nitpicking etc.

The trouble with your list is I've seen 1, 2 & 3 emerge in non-political contexts. No. 3 often happens by itself!

Bores who go on about Libs/Dems do this and Cons/Reps do that, without looking at their own side are a common bot feature. Usually an unrelated comment about Biden/Trump/Hilary etc. I don't accuse anyone on here of that by the way. Fred is very anti-Democrat, but I've seen him critical of Republicans.

However, I am also concerned that policing this stuff leads to censorship and that is not a good thing either. So I see stuff like some of Sushi Chef's posts as reading like light entertainment. I know I post the odd "out there" topic on here, but I do try and post reasonably intelligent and thought provoking content on here, as well as the occasional thing I find spiritually edifying.
