If ye are Prepared, ye shall not fear...

Dallin Oaks didn't mention Missouri.

I wouldn't call covid "desolating", unless by desolation, we mean "desolation of freedom", or something like that.

I'm still waiting for the real scourge. It's a good video, nonetheless.

There are more meanings to desolate. Covid certainly has caused this.
1 : devoid of inhabitants and visitors : DESERTED
a desolate abandoned town
2 : joyless, disconsolate, and sorrowful through or as if through separation from a loved one
a desolate widow
3a : showing the effects of abandonment and neglect : DILAPIDATED
a desolate old house
b : BARREN, LIFELESS
a desolate landscape
c : devoid of warmth, comfort, or hope : GLOOMY
desolate memories

If Christ is going to make a grand entrance this time, I think the desolation needs to be as bad as He is good.

(so all of the above?)

"desolating", "pandemic"

Someday the world is going to see a sickness that is desolating and kills a large portion of those in your community; your dad, your neighbor across the street, the girl you work with, the untouchable celebrity. It will make Covid look like a calm, Spring day. We will beg for God to end our misery and breathe out lamentations as we feel for Him out of necessity.
