Beards a serious yet light hearted question

Hey all -

So was thinking today - why do men have beards?

Anyone know the purpose, functionality? I heard a long time ago it helps with frequency/electricity around the man (something like that).

Would love to hear thoughts, medical ideas, opinions etc - a light topic to help end the week!

Mammals have hair. Hair and fur helps keep mammals warm. It provides a layer of protection. It traps impurities in the nose and elsewhere. It has aesthetic implications. Sexual implications. It can also serve as a social message. It can also serve ego.

I’m more curious why men have nipples. And also chest hair. Even if the first serves a purpose, the second would defeat it.

We have beards so that we can demonstrate how much we want to overcome the natural man by shaving them. ;-)

Fortunately, my wife is one of those.

So, as I sit here with a pair of tweezers, working on the full-face lady beard I've had since I was 15, I'd love an answer to the question of why some of us gals have to deal with the beard issue as well. I'm all girl, so this has been a nightmare for me my whole life. What do you men think of women with this issue?

Pure Hawaiians do not. I believe men were cursed with it at some point.

And I’m a wife that has threatened her husband if he shaves his. 😉 It’s only been in the past couple of years that I realized how handsome he looks with one. I think it makes him look younger even though it’s speckled with gray. 😂

when I started my student teaching at a high school and got a bunch of girls that liked me, so my wife made me grow a beard. The girls found out I played bari in a swing band, and started coming to all my shows. folks say I look like I'm in my early 30's, but I'm closer to 50. Beard helps make me look more mature.

And it helps filter the man glitter while I work on the cabin....

For myself, I don’t like the look of my face when it’s clean shaven. I feel more comfortable with myself when I’ve got a good amount of facial hair growing. So for me it’s a confidence thing. And thank you to a few of your clever ones that gave me a great laugh.

Why do men have nipples? 😂😂😂

I hate beards.....just not a fan.....some people look incredibly bad with them...and some can rock them...my husband is close to hairless....which I prefer..i do not like hairy men...lol....especially if they have hair on their backs...lol...i know Tmi....anyway when my husband tries to grow a beard on his baby face I freak out cuz it looks thin and raggedy...like a caterpillar is stuck to his upper lip...lol........he looks much better clean shaven...but I do have to say some five o'clock shadow on some looks OK.....just makes my hubby look like he has some dirt or insects on his face that needs brushing off....lol.....all three of my sons have varying degrees of beards which they seem to like....I dislike the way they all look from full beard with stash to small beard with no stash...and one has a goatee.....their wives must like it while I find it almost offensive...lol......for women who have facial hair maybe try electrolysis....I had a good friend who had issues with upper lip hair and continually had her face waxed which caused the hair to grow more coarse and black than originally.....waxing the face is not a good thing over time for women.....electrolysis worked very well for her after the years of waxing....not a fan of body hair on either sex....lol.....just my weird quirk....if a beard makes the man than great....I hope the fashion trend recedes into the dust bin of fads....probably no such luck...looks like most men like them...

My husband grows a beard because I love him iwith one. He doesn't like it but he grows it for me.
The men in my family can't grow a beard. I am afraid that my sons got that gene. My poor boys....

They're like your belly button - they help keep your skin on.

I always considered the belly button as more of a temporary lint holder.

The beards have been going on a lot longer than shaving. The fad is shaving. The reality, the origin, the God given plan was ... beards.

So maybe the shaving fad has dropped into the dust bin.

A few of us once had a surprisingly long discussion about why men have nipples. I don’t think there was ever a conclusion.

I mean as embryos, males & females start out similarly - but most sexual differences become distinct - except male nipples.

Once my dad had his shirt off & was reading or something - until he was surprised when my baby sister tried nursing on him. He laughed but got up like “that was weird.”

Understandable. As mentioned, women have makeup, men have beards.

Of those I know who love masks, 2 of them admitted they wear them because they’re self conscious about their teeth. Generally, I think masks are horrible - they don’t work, harm more them help, stifle breath etc. But maybe in some cases, it gives people a sense of confidence, even if sad.

Beards make more sense to me than baldness.

At least beards help protect the face from cold and the sun.

Other men have beards to remind me of my shame…that I cannot grow one and must wonder this lonely world beardless.

A lot of balding men grow beards to compensate.
I think it kind of works.

But why don't we lose facial hair like we lose head hair?

I LOVE beards on guys. Pretty much any guy looks a little hotter with a beard.
