Storing rice.

Post by OCDMOM »

If I want to store white rice in a 5 gallon pail, does it need a little packet in it that sucks up moisture? Are they safe or full of weird chemicals? Thanks in advance.

We keep a five gallon pail of rice in the pantry. Sometimes we open it 2-3 times a week. Sometimes we dont open it for a month. We go through a bucket every 6-10 monthS.

Because we are using it I don't bother with the oxygen absorbers.

If you live in the West, the air is dry enough to keep your rice dry. If you are going to store long term, I would consider putting dry ice in the buckets so there is no oxygen and bugs can't survive in them.
