Putin vs Biden? I think we all know who'd win that one on one. They're both getting on in years, but it's common knowledge that Vlad is excellent at martial arts (judo and taekwondo etc), whereas sleepy Joe's only blackbelt is in waffle

I think the american establishment would like to prop Mitt up as the common sense middle ground candidate Dems aren't getting the whitehouse back, and the establishment will do anything to avoid Trump.

Black was not his "top" aide. He was one of hundreds of advisors Romney had.

Doesn't mean he's not compromised in other ways - I don't know for sure. But I've yet to see blatant evidence for him lying or conspiring or anything like that. I think he is probably naive to how deep the infiltration is here in America, and he is definitely a pragmatist and not an ideologue.

It can be. He's not anti war obviously, but saying he is pro-war might be a stretch. He is the kind of guy to trust the military "experts" and generals and go from there. That's probably his biggest weakness, in that maybe he doesn't realize how compromised some of them are. If a case can be made for war, he definitely considers it.

He was not his top aide. His top aides were Spencer Zwick, Matt Rhodes, and Stuart Stevens. Black was a "policy advisor" on terrorism. That just means someone who wrote papers saying "This is what I think you should say." Campaigns have tons of them. None are very important.

And you think that his position is not because he's ALWAYS been opposed to Russian imperialism (remember when Obama made fun of him for being so anti-Russia?), but because one policy advisor worked for some Ukrainian company?

When your enemy has you worried about what he might do if you respond to what he's already done, he's won the game of tit for tat.

Why is it we haven't created fear in Putin that WE will start WW3 over what he is doing in Ukraine.

If we can't put that fear in Russia (or China) then the game of deterrence is over.

Airplanes or even tanks in Ukraine doesn't mean WW3. Nuclear deterrence is to prevent the destruction of your homeland, not win battlefield victories (yes, I'm aware of tactical nukes, but Putin isn't using them now because of MAD deterrence).

We think we are so smart that avoiding conflict will prevent WW3. But we're marching down that path all the same.

The very same calculus that says Putin will escalate war if we get involved in Ukraine applies if we send antitank missiles to Ukraine and cripple Russia with sanctions.

In fact, Japan felt no choice but to launch a surprise attack on the USA in response to an embargo. Why did we put an embargo on Japan? Because we didn't want to risk WW2 by getting involved in their actions.

We should not assume surprise attacks won't come in other forms from Russia if we allow it to continue down the path of aggression. And Russia already knows we will not risk WW3 so that gives him more ability to hit back at us or others with out a real response.

What's more likely to create more aggression in the future from a bully? Staying on the sidelines while he he beats up others or actually stopping him from beating up others?

We get involved now or later. Later is a reasonable choice, but sadly I think it comes at a place of strategic weakness and the time and place of the bully's choosing.
