He was not his top aide. His top aides were Spencer Zwick, Matt Rhodes, and Stuart Stevens. Black was a "policy advisor" on terrorism. That just means someone who wrote papers saying "This is what I think you should say." Campaigns have tons of them. None are very important.
And you think that his position is not because he's ALWAYS been opposed to Russian imperialism (remember when Obama made fun of him for being so anti-Russia?), but because one policy advisor worked for some Ukrainian company?
