The Associated Press (AP) is now confirming what I reported above. Their story, which came out about 90 minutes AFTER mine, reported the matter, as follows:

KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — In a dramatic escalation of East-West tensions over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, President Vladimir Putin ordered Russian nuclear forces put on high alert Sunday in response to what he called “aggressive statements” by leading NATO powers.

The order means Putin wants Russia’s nuclear weapons prepared for increased readiness to launch and raises the threat that Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine and the West’s response to it could boil over into nuclear warfare.

Amid the worrying development, the office of Ukraine’s president said a delegation would meet with Russian officials as Moscow’s troops drew closer to Kyiv.

Putin, in giving the nuclear alert directive, cited not only the alleged statements by NATO members but the hard-hitting financial sanctions imposed by the West against Russia, including the Russian leader himself.

Speaking at a meeting with his top officials, Putin told his defense minister and the chief of the military’s General Staff to put the nuclear deterrent forces in a “special regime of combat duty.”

“Western countries aren’t only taking unfriendly actions against our country in the economic sphere, but top officials from leading NATO members made aggressive statements regarding our country,” Putin said in televised comment

Of course, Europe is on a different level than we are but, we are not anywhere near Nuclear war yet. That could change in a matter of minutes, but not very likely, at least from Russia. Vlad is no idiot. However, Iran or even China on the other hand could easily launch a nuke or a hundred at Israel and Taiwan respectively. WE have no business being involved in Ukraine or Russia or in their politics period. Putin will pull back unless Biden's quasi sanctions continue, or if they actually start having a negative impact on Russia. I feel similar. I think Putin really believes in Russian/USSR excellence and while I'd prefer Glory-Day-America-Capitalism, where did time and that level of freedom lead the US to? And how long did a healthy sort of capitalism last here? If Ukraine peaceably accepted Putin's push for expansion, this would have been over quickly and Ukraine would have new Russian overlords, and how bad would that have been for them? They'd lose degrees of Freedom but Putin wants Russian excellence and Ukraine would be part of that.

I try to be objective. I don't think Putin is as righteous as he and his group portray him but I also don't think he is as evil as American liberals and American conservatives portray him. He hates today's western ideology. He wants a strong, healthy, powerful Russia. He wants Ukraine to be part of that, there is historical precedence for Ukraine to be part of Russia and NATO would love to have Russia join their ranks or at the very least a thorn in Russia's side. Putin isn't having that and Biden is weak so he struck.

Cutting Russia off from SWIFT is a "matter of days", according to a central bank within the euro zone according to a report from Reuters.

Inside Russia, plans are being reviewed as to what response the nation might make if the West "attacks" Russia economically. Russian President Vladimir Putin was explicitly clear during his speech wherein he announced Russia would be moving to de-militarize and de-nazify Ukraine: "Anyone who interferes will have consequences the likes of which they have never seen in history." I don't think you have trained in the open, let alone in classified environments to deal with them. So, who is listening to MSM?
