Joining Utah territory with the United States government was a sign of a faithless leader.

I like him. I think overall he was a positive force for the Saints. Has a lot of positives, messed up here and there. Not sure who else could have done better after Joseph died.

The 1940 movie “Brigham Young” was pretty good. Made by Fox.

I caught the tail end of it on TV here years ago. Recognised immediately what it was about. Have never been able to get hold of the full version.

Brother Brigham challenges the saints is one of my favorites. I have read a great many of brighams sermons and love him as well.

His bold and blunt style is extremely refreshing although he was also known to be very tender.

Of course he said a few things he shouldn’t have. All men do.

We need a Brigham right now

I have a digital copy of it. I’ll try to see if I can upload it somewhere.

Info: wow, you now think Brigham had the power to defeat the US in manifest destiny. The lengths people will strangle their understandings to to make a point is crazy. and god said the US would spread in the BoM, if you think BY could have stopped it and sinned there you must really feel he was the most powerful man that ever lived, sort of a contradiction wouldn't you say?

Yeah I'd probably take him over the current lot. But if his accusers are right and he's responsible for the death of Joseph and perversion of doctrine then that's pretty unforgivable. All will be revealed soon anyway. Until then I'll have to reserve judgement.

Yes please, and if you do, please put it on Odysee or Bitchute etc. YouTube can't be trusted with anything these days.

I can't get it on streaming services or on DVD over here.

It's the only time I've seen the LDS in a drama on British TV. Except a stupid scene in that stupid sitcom Mrs Brown's Boys where "she" invites missionaries in, and they start teaching about Jonah in the first discussion- as you do. 🙄 (I'm embarrassed to admit I've ever watched that programme.)

Do you mean this in a "truth that comes from the end of the world" sense or do you mean it in a more targeted sense of God will be bringing to light better understanding and details on Mormon history soon?

You have been oppressed by King Brigham.
Mosiah (LDS 23:12-14) (RLDS 11:12-15)
12 And now I say unto you, ye have been oppressed by king Noah, and have been in bondage to him and his priests, and have been brought into iniquity by them; therefore ye were bound with the bands of iniquity. 13 And now as ye have been delivered by the power of God out of these bonds; yea, even out of the hands of king Noah and his people, and also from the bonds of iniquity, even so I desire that ye should stand fast in this liberty wherewith ye have been made free, and that ye trust no man to be a king over you. 14 And also trust no one to be your teacher nor your minister, except he be a man of God, walking in his ways and keeping his commandments

First one. The history will never be settled with documentation, etc.

Very much in keeping with Hugh Nibley in his book: Brother Brigham Challenges the Saints. Fascinating book.

Really?
Compared to Hitler, Stalin, Pol Pot, Mao, Franco, Mussolini etc.... how close?
What about Ted Bundy or any number of vicious serial killers? How close to them?

In his own words he said he was not a prophet.
Brigham Young quotes-

August 15, 1844 (Times & Seasons, 5:618)
“You are now without a prophet present with you in the flesh to guide you; but you are not without apostles”

April 7, 1852 (Journal of Discourses 6:320)
“A person was mentioned to-day who did not believe that Brigham Young was a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator. I wish to ask every member of this whole community, if they ever heard him profess to be a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator, as Joseph Smith was? Who ordained me to be First President of this Church on earth? I answer, It is the choice of this people, and that is sufficient.” (see Article of Faith #5)

April 6, 1853 (Journal of Discourses 1:136)
“Now will it cause some of you to marvel that I was not ordained a High Priest before I was ordained an Apostle? Brother Kimball and myself were never ordained High Priests. How wonderful! … When a man is ordained to be an Apostle, his Priesthood is without beginning of days, or end of life, like the Priesthood of Melchizedek” (as we covered above, his apostolic charge stated that “your ordination is not full and complete till God has laid His hand upon you.” Scriptures support this in JST Genesis 14:28)

July 26, 1857, (Journal of Discourses 5:72-78)
I am not going to interpret dreams; for I don’t profess to be such a Prophet as were Joseph Smith and Daniel; but I am a Yankee guesser;

June 3, 1860 (Journal of Discourses 8:69)
“The brethren testify that brother Brigham Young is brother Joseph’s legal successor. You never heard me say so. I say that I am a good hand to keep the dogs and wolves out of the flock.”

October 7, 1864 (Journal of Discourses 10:339)
“I have never particularly desired any man to testify publicly that I am a Prophet; nevertheless, if any man feels joy, in doing this, he shall be blest in it. I have never said that I am not a Prophet; but, if I am not, one thing is certain, I have been very profitable to this people. In the providence of God he has placed me to take charge of his flock, and they have been abundantly blessed under my administration. I did not desire to be their shepherd; but the great Shepherd of all the sheep placed me in this position.”
