So....we don't need food storage anymore, or we don't need to be told anymore? Are they saying that new members that joined after they stopped talking about it don't need to hear it? Yes, that is quite a peculiar observation. The church in the years post WW2 through the 1990s sure did focus a lot more on preparedness. (Or prepping, as we geeks like to call it.) And obviously since the second coming didn't happen yet, it stands to reason that we are CLOSER to it now. Closer than ever before. In all honesty, I wonder if it's (almost) too late? It takes a lot of time and money to build a year's supply of no perishable food, let alone finances, supplies, weapons (yes I said it ), not to mention most of the church and the world simply does not possess the knowledge and skillset to survive perilous times. I'm a country boy from a farm, avid hunter and outdoorsman, prepped, firearms junkie, camping fool, eagle scout with a solid construction trades, electrical, and mechanical background, and I worry that I'm not sufficiently prepared and lack the skills.

There seem to be some people who don't get excommunicated, or can't be. The Second Anointing probably explains some of that. Not all GAs have it apparently. Hamula was probably one who didn't, and whatever he did got him in trouble.

Sad that they don’t know calling and election is bestowed by God and not by man. The calling and election seals us, it is the sealing power. It’s also telling that Joseph says this should be taught and that the least Saint may know it. In all my years at church I never heard of it. Calling and election happens directly through Jesus Christ. The examples of the prophets in the scriptures suggest that we must sacrifice and lay everything on the altar and prove through much tribulation and toil that we are worthy to follow Him at all costs. We cannot do this from our couches in our comfy homes. I think for many people this will happen after the tribulations start and the judgements are poured out upon the earth.

In what is often referred to as His Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24, Jesus speaks about events that will take place before His second coming. One of the warnings Christ gives is this: “For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect” (verse 24).

The Greek word translated “elect” is eklektós, which means “chosen ones.” It’s a term used a number of times in the New Testament to refer to true believers in Jesus (e.g., Luke 18:7; Romans 8:33; Colossians 3:12). Will the false miracles performed by the false messiahs and prophets in the end times be so convincing that even born-again believers will be led astray?

There are two reasons why the answer to this question is “no.”
First, nearly all Bible commentators agree that the grammatical construction of the verse and its parenthetical statement “if possible” strongly point to such a thing being out of the question.
The deception will be strong, the miracles will seem real, and the intent will be to mislead everyone, including the elect. But God’s grace will prevail. His chosen ones will not be drawn away into deception.

Second, the Bible firmly speaks to the fact that the elect are protected by God from deceptions that would result in eternal separation from Christ. Paul tells us that God “chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we would be holy and blameless before Him” (Ephesians 1:4); Peter says that the chosen “are protected by the power of God through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time” (1 Peter 1:5); and Jude says that the chosen are “beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ” (Jude 1:1). With respect to following false Christs, Jesus says, “He who enters by the door is a shepherd of the sheep. A stranger they simply will not follow, but will flee from him, because they do not know the voice of strangers” (John 10:2–5). The sheep know their Shepherd.

Being deceived is a mark of the unregenerate: “At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures” (Titus 3:3). After salvation, we may stray from the truth at times, but the Bible makes it clear that the elect of God cannot be deceived to the extent of being finally lost. If God’s chosen ones could be deceived in such a way, God’s choice of them would be defeated, and that is not possible. All who are in Christ have been predestined, called, justified, and will eventually be glorified (Romans 8:30). They have been given to Christ; and of all those who have been given to Him, He will lose none (John 10:28).

I’ve been studying the topic of the elect. It’s clear to me that the elect have not been and will not be deceived. The key phrase is “if it were possible.” It isn’t possible to deceive the elect. They are God’s and know his voice.
This is why it’s hard to watch those around us fall for deception, especially in leadership positions. We have been conditioned to believe they are the elect.

A funny side note is, in Matthew 24:24, Christ is talking about the end time right before He comes. However, if you look at the footnote for that scripture it says, apostasy of the early Christian church. That’s not at all what He was talking about. It’s my belief in scriptures where it refers to false prophets, they try to sway you (in the footnotes) to think that it’s during the early apostasy, when really it’s the later apostasy.

I’ve been studying the topic of the elect. It’s clear to me that the elect have not been and will not be deceived. The key phrase is “if it were possible.” It isn’t possible to deceive the elect. They are God’s and know his voice.
This is why it’s hard to watch those around us fall for deception, especially in leadership positions. We have been conditioned to believe they are the elect.

A funny side note is, in Matthew 24:24, Christ is talking about the end time right before He comes. However, if you look at the footnote for that scripture it says, apostasy of the early Christian church. That’s not at all what He was talking about. It’s my belief in scriptures where it refers to false prophets, they try to sway you (in the footnotes) to think that it’s during the early apostasy, when really it’s the later apostasy.

Thanks. I don’t understand…..so there is more JST than what is in our scriptures? How? Is this public knowledge or is it not public knowledge? How do we know if it’s the real deal?

It is my understanding that the LDS church does not have the complete JST, but the RLDS church does. If you search the JST resource on LDS org, it is incomplete.
