Mormon Book Reviews: Joseph in the Gap

Post by BeNotDeceived »

Mormon Book Reviews wrote: Evangelical Steven Pynakker interviews Taylor Drake author of "Joseph in the Gap: The Hidden History That Explains Mormonism's Past, Present and Future". When Taylor's son brought up to him some concerns about Mormon history, he decided to delve into it to find some answers. This book is a result Taylor's effort to understand some little known aspects of LDS history. In this interview we discuss the current state of the priesthood in the LDS church, the temple endowment ceremony and scripture, the Fallen Prophet Theory, and much more. A very original book, Steven had a former apologist for FairMormon do some research on it. He determined that the book is internally consistent and well researched.
I think he's wrong about the future role of Joseph Smith, but Part 1 and 2 of his book is very well researched and cites many authoritative source documents. Poor guy was excommunicated in the new paradigm, without the benefit of being able to plead his case before a panel of jurors comprised of members of the high council.

I agree with most of what this guy wrote about the Fullness of the Priesthood, when it was restored, and the downgrading of the Church, having previously arrived at that conclusion through study and revelation.

However, I do not believe that Joseph was under condemnation like the Church as a collective were. I believe in all the doctrines he taught up until the end.

https://youtu.be/Pz3gpLfa4V0?t=740 is about Sidney Rigdon and his very unique role, ordinations and disapproval of many of the Nauvoo doctrines. The church voted to keep Sidney, but Brigham Young disparaged him.

To be a prophet, seer, and revelator is a gift of the spirit. Not something a man can simply ordain you to.

And no the Church did not choose to keep Sidney, which is why Joseph specifically sent him out of town.

Anything after 1834 is highly suspect and many fabrications existed before that.

Anyone can see stuff like:
https://march8miracle.org wrote: C -- 3 = Month
H -- 8 = The day was skipped this time
R - 18 = Day of the 5.7 magnitude earthquake
I -- 9 = The very Minute that Moroni landed his instrument
S - 19 = The very Hour on the opposite side of Planet Earth
T - 20 = The very Year and Century when Moroni quickly ate it
But only by faith and previous experiences will they know what to look for.
