The whistleblower complaint alleges that the EPA universe of assets grew by $90 billion between 2009 and 2019 and a large part of that growth came as run-off from tithing income to the church.

Religion Unplugged reached out to several former employees of EPA to hear their perspective on the firm and their response to allegations raised in the whistleblower complaint. One former employee, speaking on background, said he greatly respected EPA staff and leadership and didn’t believe the firm needed to practice more transparency. Transparency, he said, is “usually for accountability to those who you have a fiduciary duty to. In this case, they are responsible to themselves. They don’t have investors. I understand if it is a mutual fund where people give their own money to manage. They [EPA] don’t have shareholders.”

The whistleblower complaint noted that a former Head of Fixed Income at EPA, Richard B. Willes, in 2011 advocated for transparency. “The longer we wait to disclose the more difficult it will be to defend,” the document quotes him as saying. It quotes another member of the asset allocation team saying, “We’ve got an optics problem here. The lack of distributions sure doesn’t look good.”

An ex-Mormon thread on the message board Reddit names powerful Utah institutions and calls Ensign Peak Advisors “the big kahuna of them all” and identifies it as “the super secretive investment arm of the church.” The author of the Reddit post describes a meeting he had at EPA in which he was asking for a $100 million investment and said the firm saw that amount as a “drop in the bucket” to them. Religion Unplugged tried to reach the person to learn more.

Other websites online such as Salamander Society has discussion threads asked LDS tithe payers to contact church headquarters and request financial disclosure of church assets and to obtain any response other than “Sorry, that information is not available.”

In response to Religion Unplugged’s questions about financial disclosure, the church media relations department sent links to statements on the Church web site. “While the Church chooses not to publish the details of its finances, the Church does provide public information on the financial principles it follows, the financial controls in place to protect Church funds and the source and use of these funds,” according to a frequently asked question section on the LDS Church web site. “The Church also provides all financial information required by law.”

Apparently you guys think that Zion is going to get built with pixie dust without so much as the slightest effort on our part to get it done.

They didn't get the end result they were hoping for the last time, so now they are trying again.

Clearly the tax-exempt status of the church needs to be revoked and this money given to the government where they will make much better use of it in assisting the poor by creating a new agency staffed by tens of thousands of liberal arts majors making six figures each.

Name me one modern prophet who actually participated in a United Order.

Side quest: name me one non-profit sitting on over $100B and disbursing less than 2% of its funds to actual charitable causes per year.

"We have bad optics" is an understatement.

It is interesting for me to think that others believe we are going to need lots of money to build Zion. Is Zion a place with large spacious buildings? I beg to differ. Zion is a people united in righteousness walking with the Spirit of the Lord. It is a state of being. Buildings are not necessary. The church can hoard its filthy lucre because money never can and never will build (buy) Zion. Satan is wrong, you can not buy everything with money.

Those people united in righteousness are going to need homes to live in, homes constructed by the sweat of their own brow.

Zion will not be built with fairy dust. And the buildings don't even need to be spacious. But according to Revelation as well as visions given to some of the early Church leaders, it will encompass a vast area and by today's money will require trillions of dollars to construct.

I guess the church better start saving and investing more because they are far from that number, especially when the dollar is prophesied to be worth nothing. It is going to need that magic fairy dust. You may see the "church" building Zion, but I see individuals and families coming and working together to build Zion. Each looking out for and helping each other. I believe that is the way He would want it. That is His real church.

I am sure that none of you believe that there will be only a REMNANT on the earth. a remnant of people, a remnant of builders, a remnant of artisans, a remnant of silver owners, a remnant of building supply stores. . .do I need to go on. . . probably no McDonald's. . . or Walmarts. . . no government and most of DC burned, especially since liars will all be burned. Anyway, it will be like after the flood or into the wilderness or whatever. gold and silver will be plentious because no one will care about hoarding it. Plenty of materials and fabrics and decor since only a remnant of people who could care less about material things. Work will be the biggest demand on the remnants left.

since the whole earth will change from the wars, pestilence and destructions then it will all be different. . .That's why the prophets excuse for keeping the money was silly and many of your posts are silly.

I agree. Zion will not be built with money. Eventually money will cease to exist anyhow. The church doesn’t think the powers that be will empty their bank accounts? They are wrong. The global government will soon own every church. Zion will built by a righteous people with the help of angelic beings and the God’s servant. This will not be a telestial city built with telestial things such as filthy lucre.
Enoch. Did he have cash stashed? Nope. Once Zion is built the city of Enoch will come down and join together with it.
