Rasband Rumor

Post by Pazooka »

A friend of mine directed me to this quote from the Pure Mormonism blog https://puremormonism.blogspot.com/2021 ... vwoWulYlO8

Just wondering if anyone can verify that this is accurately reported.
"Elder Rasband was speaking at a meeting in Boise last week. Our nephew was in attendance. Someone asked about the vaccine and Elder Rasband responded that each person should understand that the Church is being threatened and sued on a continual basis. The CDC has the Church in their crosshairs. This request for the members to participate in the vaccine was simply to reduce liability for the Church from the government. He said that members are to go to the Lord with this...and do what feels right for them. This has never been, nor ever will be a commandment."

The change made to the Temple Square proceedings would seem to contradict that.

Rock Waterman acknowledged that quote was probably not authentic after someone who knew spoke up about its provenance. This got discussed in the comments.

I kind of figured it didn’t jive with his previously displayed sincerely held religious beliefs. Thanks

Rasband is a fraud. He denied me a recommend in around 2005 or so, not sure exactly. That was before I moved to the wilderness. My new Bishop and Stake President gave me a recommend right away and also called me to work in the clerks office which is a stake position. His discernment is not functional. And at least at the time, his guidance from above did not exist. He was Huntsman Senior's yes man. He can cry as good as any of them, as if that proves spirituality. He's like Dumb and Dumber except fatter.

I can't remember if it was here on LDSFF or in another group, but that whole thing was thoroughly debunked - it never happened, as in, Rasband never said any such things. It's simply a rumor that got started by TBM's to cover for their extreme cogdis in regards to what the Church is doing now.

I think Mr. Waterman debunked this entire fracas in the commentary on his own post.

Daniel Peterson likewise debunked it on his Sic et Non blog.

I don't read anything from Daniel Peterson - he's a Class A @ss, IMO. Didn't read Waterman's write-up on this either, but I might look it up. Must have been in another group, but yes, it has been thoroughly debunked. It is a lie that Rasband said that. It's amazing to me (but shouldn't be) how many members just believe it simply because someone said he said it.

Just the logic would indicate that such a meeting would not occur in that type of setup, much less the Elder quoting the government agency being on the Church's proverbial throat about this.

(Peterson in his piece noted that the Apostles in the week leading up to General Conference don't go on trips outside the immediate area as they are preparing for the Conference. The start of the week is when the leadership meetings take place e.g.).

Interesting about DP. I've dialogued w/him a lot on his blog, and didn't know this about his 'personality' until experiencing first hand and multiple times, the sarcastic ridicule he is addicted to on certain, shall we say, political issues and towards those he disagrees with.

And he's clueless about how he comes across, being astonished that major contributors to his Interpreter Foundation, stop contributing because of these tendencies.

But what a devoted crowd he has there, one that hangs on his every word.

Regarding not joining in vaccination and masks: "It is neither a sin nor a commandment!". Have this first hand. Enough said.

You decide what to do. Any questions?

Look up 'pompous @ss' in the dictionary, and there's a pic of DP. 8-) Lots of Mormons love to have flesh-and-blood idols; it's sad, really.

Was this a stake meeting? If anyone could get a transcript of this, this would be VERY useful. At the least, tell the Area here not to be so restrictive.

This is interesting. Thanks for the info.

If you could provide more context and quotes that would be cool.

realy? Really, really? Really? If they are concerned about a law suit then why would that fellar Rasband make a comment in a public meeting that could bring on questioning from the WHO? especially in a church meeting where most of the attendees love to spread anything that is said. BWAHAHAHAHAHA (sarcasm)

scary business we are in. . . he might get reported to the Nazis and now that it is in writing on this forum then he could be quoted by SL Tribune or maybe even ticktock

It could happen

i contributed to the MIF from the beginning as i felt the “communists” ran him out of the MI……but in 2016 i stopped when i saw his disdain for folks outside of the “GOP establishment” arena of ideas….

Sounds like yet another example of how Utah mormons think how much people outside of Utah really give a crap what goes on in Utah. Seriously, folks, think about how much time you spend worrying about what the Amish do, and that's roughly how much significance non-Utahns give to Utahns.
